RUSH CHAIRMAN’S INVITATION
Welcome to Tennessee Tech
Rushees! I hope you are settled in
by now and are ready for an ex-
citing year. I think you will find
Tech has something to offer
everyone, whether you are in-
terested in Intramural sports,
Drama, ASB, or one of Tech’s many
religious organizations. I feel also
that the fraternity system at Tech
has much to offer including a stan-
dard of excellence. Some of these
include ASB President, ASB
Senators, Cheerleaders and many
other ranking positions on campus.
We at Phi Gamma Delta are also
dedicated to the standard of ex-
cellence. While we've only been on
Tech's campus for five years,
we've established ourselves as one
of the leading fraternities on cam-
pus. Last year we won All-Sing for
the fifth consecutive year. One of
consecutive All-Sing victory.
PHI GAM FORESIGHT
Theta Tau Chapter of Phi Gamma Delta at Tennessee Technological University
our latest acheivements was win-
ning the first annual Fraternity of
the Year award. Rather it is the
Friendship and Brotherhood that
make for lasting memories.
We welcome you to come by our
house. Rush starts Tuesday night,
September 11th with our Open
House and free taco bar. This will
give you a chance to meet some of
our Brothers as well as other Tech
students. I’m looking forward to
meeting you!
Sincerely,
Kirk McLemore

PHI GAM ACTIVITIES
BROTHERHOOD-
ASSOCIATION,
FRATERNITY.
FRATERNITY-
BROTHERLINESS,
BROTHERHOOD.
The word “brotherhood” is what
Phi Gamma Delta means to
everyone associated with it. A
unique bond is ever present at the
Phi Gam house. It is a bond of
sharing and caring for one’s fellow
man.
A fraternal association is a very
important facet during everyone’s
college career. Through a frater-
nity one meets many diversified
individuals with whom he learns to
communicate, work, and recreate.
The brothers of Phi Gamma
Delta pride themselves on being
individuals. Each brother con-
tributes to the fraternity in his
own special way. Phi Gam stays
involved in many social, athletic,
and academic activities that take
each individual’s input for Phi Gam
to do its best.
Phi Gam actively participates in
the intramural sports events that
take place each quarter. This past
fall the Fiji football team took
third place in the Purple Division
and tied for fifth in the overall
fraternity competition. During the
winter quarter Phi Gam was back
in action with its Basketball and
Volleyball teams. Also during the
winter, Phi Gams take an active
part in the wrestling tournaments.
During the spring the men of Fiji
take to the softball fields to par-
ticipate in the always heated sof-
tball games.
During fall quarter, Parent’s
Day is important to each brother.
This is a time for us to notonly
show how we live at school, but
to let our parents see our unique
fraternal association.
Page 2
Homecoming is a major
highlight of the quarter. It in-
volves a week of parties, games,
and fun. Last year Phi Gam built a
Homecoming Float with Kappa
Delta sorority that placed 2nd in
the parade. We also teamed up
with Zeta Tau Alpha to take Ist
place in the Dinner Theatre com-
petition.
Winter quarter is the coldest,
but it is loaded with fun. Two
major activities during winter
quarter are our Purple Garter
Formal and All-Sing.
The Purple Garter Formal was
held last year in Knoxville at the
Hyatt Regency Hotel.
Pledge Bennie Copeland

Fiji Island spirit
as well as the dress.
All-Sing is always a fun time for
every Phi Gam brother. It is a time
when many of our graduate
brothers come back to see us par-
ticipate. Last year our songs were
from the 1960’s era and we came
home with the first place trophy
for the 5th year ina row.
During spring quarter, Phi Gam
is busy with many outdoor ac-
tivities.
Greek Week is a highlight
because it is a time when all greeks
on campus get together to par-
ticipate in games, sun and fun!

ties.
during Greek Week, Phi Gamma
Delta was named “FRATERNITY
OF THE YEAR”. We plan to work
even harder to win it again this
year.
Fiji Island is held each year at
the end of May. It is a weekend
when the brothers and their dates
go the lake to camp, eat, and have a
good time. During the week prior
to Fiji Island, we held our 3rd an-
nual Fiji Island Kick Off Party and
Tanning Contest which was atten-
ded by more than a thousand Tech
students. Also during this week we
announce our sweetheart. This
year our sweetheart is Elizabeth
McSpadden. She is a junior from
Kingsport and is President of
Kappa Delta sorority.
Scholarship is an important part
of our fraternity. We have the
highest QPA of all fraternities and
are striving to do even better.
Whether or not you decide to
pledge Phi Gamma Delta or
another fraternity at Tech is a
decision only you can make. Your
pledge period lasts for one quarter.
During this time you must main-
tain a QPA of 2.0 to be initiated.
The International Fraternity of
Phi Gamma Delta strictly prohibits
any form of physical or mental
hazing and our chapter at Ten-
nessee Tech strongly adheres to
this policy. We believe hazing
inhibits true brotherhood.
Through a fraternal association
during your college career, you can
learn to share of yourself, com-
municate with others, and become
a well rounded individual. You will
also build memories and _frien-
dships that will last a lifetime.
You may have many more
questions that are not mentioned
above, and we the brothers of Phi
Gamma Delta, sincerely hope that
you will come to rush and ask them.
Phi Gam Little Sisters enjoy one of the many Parties
during the quarter.

The Brothers Say...WELCOME!
Dear Rushee,
Congratulations on your recent
graduation from High School.
What a sense of accomplishment
and a feeling of relief after a
twelve year upward climb! Now
you must focus on both the most
rewarding and frustrating four
years of your life.
Believe it or not, I was in the
same position just four short
years ago. What will I major in?
Who will be my roommate? Will I
know anyone? What does my
college future hold for me? Don't
worry!! Remember that there are
several thousand other students
on campus experiencing the same
anxiety.
Many students find that the
best way to fully maximaze their
college experience and cope with
the occasional stress of class is to
join a social fraternity, We
believe that we are one of the bet-
ter fraternities on campus and
here are a few reasons why:
-Five years consecutively
above the all mens QPA
-All-Sing champions five years
straight
-Former All-Sports trophy
winner
THE FRATERNITY OF
‘Several Brothers in top
student leadership roles in the
University
Our most recent accomplish-
ment was the “Best fraternity on
Campus” presented to us by the
Dean of Student Activities and
the InterFraternity Council.
As you can briefly see, Phi
Gamma Delta offers you a part of
personal development that can
not be taught in a class room or
from a book. She facilitates the

rounded individual.
If you are searching for a home
away from home, good
brotherhood, and lifelong frien-
dships, then Phi Gamma Delta is
the place for you.
When you get to Tech, please
give me a call and I'll show you
around campus and introduce you
to several of the brothers.
See you in September!
Fraternally,
Jay Clark
