Gamma Phi Chapter of Phi Gamma Delta Fraternity
at The Pennsylvania State University
State College, PA -- July 1984
The Future Depends on YOU!
Corporation President's Report
On the Road to Recovery
Those following the course of Phi Gamma Delta know we
are passing through difficult times. There's good news, howeverl The institutions that sanction our existence (the Interna
tional Fraternity and the University) feel we're on the right
path to becoming an effective organization. Stop and see us
when you're in State College. We think you'll agree.
There's been a dramatic increase in financial support this
past year. Thanks are extended to the graduate brothers, class
agents and trustees who have made this possible. A high level
of giving will be needed over the next several years to replace
aging furniture and to bring our mortgages into line.
If Phi Gamma Delta was a great fraternity when you joined,
it was because the brothers before you made it great. What
happens to Phi Gamma Delta after you graduate is up to you.
We can't expect great things from our chapter if we don't have
great support from our graduate brothers. It's that simple.
Is there something of value to be gained by involving your
self in Phi Gamma Delta? You betl It may be the fellowship
with men of all Penn State "eras" who had a positive frater
nity experience, or it may be some of the same things that
drew you to the fraternity as an undergraduate.
How can you participate even if you can't travel to State
College? Please contact me. I'm looking forward to hearing

make it complete.
Please check the schedule of events and return the enclosed

Giving Response Nears 40%
1:30 PM
In May we completed a remarkable and determined drive
for funds-successfully.
Your efforts to provide sufficient monies to enable our
small but valiant undergraduate chapter to survive financially
have worked. Nearly $22,500 in individual gifts has been
received from over 300 donors (some graduate brothers gave
more than once).
Our giving response was close to 40 percent. The largest gift

The top class in participation was 7959, with 79 gifts total
ling $1,475. In most classes between five and eight members

Only one class after the 1920s was without a donor-1947.
Our class agents and trustees played a large part in the
success of the drive, with individual contacts to many of our
brothers.
The cost of the buffet supper is $8.00 per person. Please make
your check payable to "Gamma Phi of Phi Gamma Delta" and
return it with the enclosed reservation card. See you at Home
coming!
About next year: With 40 undergraduates expected to be
living in the house, the undergraduate chapter should be selfsupporting. However, we have a major need for new furniture
in the house, particularly in the first-floor areas (club room,
den, etc.). As we have said, the physical house is in better
condition than it has been in many, many years. We're looking
to focus a drive next year to refurnish those parts of the
chapter house that need it badly.
At the same time, we are carrying approximately $70,000
in first and second mortgage debt in connection with the
house renovation programs. A worthy Gamma Phi goal would
be to burn those mortgage agreements at our 100th anniver
sary celebration in 19881
