DEMOLITION OF LODGE
BEGINS AT LAST!

By Wes Bazemore ('95)

Yes,that headline is tnie. After years of effort, the demolition of the lodge at 3 Cloverhurst has finally
begun and by the early spring - barring bad weather - there will be a new chapter house in Athens. As unbelievable
as that sounds, it is finally a fact.
On Tuesday, October 19, after a protracted battle with the Athens Building Commission office, the demoli
tion pemut was granted to Kappa Deuteron and Woolard/Attman Construction(of Atlanta) to begin tearing down
the building.
"This is a great day,a day we've been waiting a long time for," said project coordinator Cale Conley after
the meeting with city officials. Demolition is slated to begin no later than Monday,October 25,and by the time the
building is down the Steering Committee will have procured the necessary bank financing and {lermit to start actual

1993 Fall Rush A Huge Success
By Jason Hudson ('96)
With chapter tone at an all
time high, this fall's rush was one ofthe
most successful in the history of Kappa
Deuteron. Much of this success is at
tributed to the hard work put in by the
rush chairmen Brad Turner and Blake
White. These two brothers put in many
long hours planning and organizing rush
events for the summer. Attendance at
the summer rush events was very high
among rushees as well as the brothers.
We entered the week of structured rush
with a great deal of confidence and
excitement. And when the week finally
came to an end we had pledged 22
outstanding yoimg men. This diverse
pledge class represents six different
states and includes many talented ath

letes as well as several campus leaders. In addition, this year's pledge class boasts four legacies. The brothers of Kappa
Deuteron are confident this class will go on to do many great things for the fraternity in the years to come. We hope you
will make sure to meet them in your visits to the chapter house.
