Summer 2015
FROM THE
Fellow Phi Gams,
I am honored to write this letter as the
President of the Phi Sigma Colony of FIJI at
Florida State University. As many of you
know, we recolonized in fall 2014 with
Josh Wiseman (Western Kentucky
2012) and Hayes McLeod (Coastal
Carolina 2014). I am forever grateful to
them for seeing the values and standards
held by the fraternity in the character of my
brothers. Joining Phi Gamma Delta in the
fall of my Sophomore year was the second
best decision I have made in my life, next to
coming to FSU, and I couldn’t imagine what
my time here would have been like without
my brothers.
PRESIDENT
gether to give back to the Florida State
community and show that we are working
hard to achieve our goals and prove that
chivalry is in fact not dead. We have become a brotherhood that accepts everyone
for who they are and does not discriminate
against anyone for their personal beliefs,
race, or religion.
I want to personally thank the graduate
brothers in the Tallahassee area for proving
that this fraternity is “Not for college days
alone.” The graduates in our area have been
supportive and an essential part of our recolonization thus far. Not only has the BCA
of graduates been a great resource, but our
housing corporation has also been helping
the Phi Sigma Colony in our quest to move
Over the past year, we had our trials and into the property that our graduates have
tribulations, but have worked through our been maintaining since our previous depargrowing pains as a team. I have witnessed a ture from campus.

OUR JOURNEY TO CHARTERING:
A WORD FROM OUR HISTORIAN
By: Matthew Roberts (2017) - Historian
Throughout our journey to chartering, we
hope to continue to grow in all areas of fraternal matters. Our colony, and eventually
our chapter, hopes to maintain a great academic standing with the help of our scholarship plan. We also want to become wellrounded individuals within the Greek community.
To achieve this, the intention is for every
brother to continue to be individually involved. We want our brothers to contribute
socially and philanthropically to our own
fraternity, as well as additional organizations on Florida State’s campus.
Our journey to charting also creates a special opportunity to grow our brotherhood.
We hope to create strong relationships that
will last beyond college. As we try to reach
our goal of becoming a chapter, we strive to
have a positive impact on Florida State’s
community, and will continue to move forward as a strong unit.

GROW TH OF PHI SIGMA COLONY
By: Ryan Dilorenzo (2016) - Corresponding Secretary
Since colonizing in fall 2014, recruiting great men who promote the values of Phi Gamma Delta has been
one of our top priorities. After being
on campus for just one year, we have
a total of 61 colony brothers.

I speak for all of my Phi Sigma Colony brothers when I
say that we are proud to be a
part of our beloved fraternity
and hold the values close to
us, wherever we may be. I
look forward to the accomplishments that my brothers
and I are going to experience
as we strive to become one of
the highest standing fraternities on campus. My hope is
that the Phi Sigma Colony
will soon be a chapter and
competing for the most prestigious Greek awards at Florida State and in Phi Gamma
Delta.

NEWSLETTER
Spring 2015 recruitment was a huge
success! The brothers of Phi Sigma
FIJI, under the leadership of recruitment chairs Lee Newhaller
(2016) and Ben Hebert (2017),
succeeded in recruiting 19 FIJI genBeta Class of Phi Sigma Colony - Spring 2015
tlemen. Our Beta pledge class consists of men ranging from freshmen
to juniors who come from different backgrounds and have vastly different interests.
Every man from the Beta class is involved in at least one other student organization
on campus.

SUMMER
CAMPUS INVOLVEMENT
As the newest fraternity
at Florida State, we pride
ourselves in being as
involved as possible. We
were involved in countless Greek philanthropies and intramural
sports. Some of the highlights for the year include participating in
Gamma Phi Beta’s annual “Crescent Classic”
kickball philanthropy,
Brothers after winning their bracket in Kappa
and winning our brackDelta’s “Bump it like BECKHΔM” Philanthropy.
et in Kappa Delta’s
“Bump it Like BECKHΔM” philanthropy, a soccer tournament benefiting
the PCAA
(Prevent
Child Abuse
America).
Also, in our
first year, the
FIJI intramural soccer
team made it
all the way to
the Gold
League SemiFinals.

Make Yourself
Immortal!
Phi Gamma Delta is teaming up with
Donate Life to increase the number of
organ donors across North America.
This joint venture is called the Immortal Phi Gam project.
There are more than 125,000 people
waiting for an organ transplant in the
United States and Canada, with approximately 150 names added to the waiting
list every day. About 79 organ transplants take place every day, but sadly,
approximately 22 people die every day
because they did not receive an organ in
time.
The good news is that together Phi
Gams can make a tremendous difference. One organ donor can save or improve the lives of up to 50 other people!
Making yourself immortal is an easy 3step process.

Go to www.phigam.org/
immortalphigam and register at
the bottom of the web page.
Click on the link on the same web
page that will take you to Donate
Life’s map page. Click on the state
or province where you are licensed
to drive or live and register to become an organ donor. This step is
unnecessary if your driver’s license
in the U.S. or insurance card in
Canada already shows that you are
an organ donor, but register again if
you are uncertain.
Tell your parents, spouse, family
members, and loved ones that you
want to donate your organs when
you die.
If you are already a registered donor,
please register with the Fraternity as
well at www.phigam.org/
immortalphigam to help track the
number of brothers who have made this
life-saving decision.
