Brothers,
On behalf of the current undergraduate chapter, I would like to
thank you again for the continued support and standard of
excellence that you all have put towards Alpha Iota.
This past spring semester, we welcomed the last five members of the
2019s and have already started the recruitment process for the Class
of 2020. As always if you know someone who you feel represents
our values and would be a good addition to Alpha Iota please
contact our recruitment chairman: Brain Toman. His contact
information is listed on the bottom of this page.
It has been an exciting year for our Chapter. From the fourth place
finish at Greek Week, to the staggering turnout at this year’s Pig
Dinner. Alpha Iota will carry this momentum with us to make the
next semester one to remember. For homecoming this year, we will
be paired with our neighbors, the women of Kappa Alpha Theta, as
well as the men of Triangle Fraternity.
CORRESPONDING SECRETARY
Now, while it may be almost a year away, I would like to remind you
all that next year’s Pig Dinner will mark the centennial of our current
residence at 325 Ash Ave. We hope to see you all there!

Brothers,
BCA PRESIDENT
As we continue making great strides we also must look back to see where we
came from. While I have only known Alpha Iota for two years, I can say that I
am proud when I look back and see how far we have come during that time. If
you have any comments, questions or requests for articles please contact me.
It is input from our Brothers that drives this Chapter in the right direction.
Unfortunately, this printed edition had to be shortened due to printing costs. A
full version can be found on the Alpha Iota website. Also once again if you have
any recruitment recommendations please feel free to contact Brian Toman.

\r\nALPHA IOTA IN ST. LOUIS
Every year, FIJI Academy brings brothers from
all over the country (as well as Canada) to St.
Louis as an invaluable learning experience.
Over the course of three days, delegates are
offered numerous seminars ranging from “How
to be Competitive in Fraternity Awards” to
“Business writing.”
During the 2015 Academy, plans were
announced for the 168th Ekklesia of
the Fraternity.
This year, the Ekklesia is heading to
Boston, MA for the biennial
convention celebration. This
year, the Ekklesia is from August 11
to the 14 and includes a FIJI night
during a Boston Red Sox game at
Fenway Park.
Alpha Iota sent its cabinet and Purple
Legionnaire as delegates this year. “I was
surprised at how many chapters didn’t send
their whole cabinet,” the current Recording
Secretary Jorge Abascal (2018) said. Alpha Iota
has the great fortune of being able to send a
complete delegation to the Academy year after
year. “It really allows the cabinet and the
Chapter to be on the same page.”
Over 600 seats have been reserved exclusively for Phi Gamma Delta; definitely a once
in a lifetime opportunity! For more information or to register go to
www.phigam.org/ekklesiaboston.

“SPORTS” sign. 3. The Olympians take Leid. 4. Dodgeball champs!
This year Alpha Iota was paired with the lovely ladies of Gamma Phi Beta
and the gentlemen of Delta Sigma Phi for Greek Week. The group went by
the name of “The Olympians.” We started out the week strong with a
championship win in dodgeball. Then our trivia team, under the
leadership of Nick Dohrmann (2018), went on to get third place. Our
broomball dreams were crushed as we lost in the championship, clinching
second place. However despite this setback our pairing still pressed on and
carried confidence with them into the Greek Olympics.
Saturday was an all-day affair as every single Phi Gam was out supporting
our teams. The first event of the day, LARPing, was won by our pairing.
During one of the rounds Austin Prestidge (2016) managed to break a
wooden shield with his sheer might. After a second round elimination in
tug-of-war, our pairing rebounded for the bed racer. In a legendary
performance, our runners managed to break the school record for a single
lap! Despite this great accomplishment we lost the lead by less than two
seconds and got second.
This year’s lip sync was based off of the movie Inside Out. It was a stellar
performance! If you wish to watch our lip sync performance go to

\r\n1st ANNUAL
On April 11 Alpha Iota hosted its first Tropic Thunder philanthropy. It
was the brainchild of Max Kuehn (2019) after he saw the need for Phi
Gamma Delta to have a spring event. The philanthropy itself was a
volleyball tournament that had six teams competing and raised
money for the United Service Organization (USO). In addition, the
event was also sponsored by Carlos’ Quesadillas. The owner, Carlos,
also donated all his proceeds that night to the USO. Live music was
provided by Brothers Lucas Brandt (2018), Lucas Manwiller (2017)
and Mike Panek (2017) (pictured to the right).

By the end of the night the last two teams remaining
were our very own Phi Gams and the men of Delta Sigma

then for the remainder of the event the FIJI band put on
a fantastic concert in the pit.

\r\nAlpha Iota NEWS
CONGRATS TO NEWLY ELECTED BOARD MEMBERS!
This year’s meeting of the Housing Corporation saw many
changes to the board’s structure. Probably the biggest of
these changes was the retirement of board member and
Treasurer Wes Cole (1962.) On behalf of Alpha Iota, we
would like to thank Wes for all the countless hours he has
dedicated to the Chapter. Thank you, Wes!
Steve Walker (1988) is taking up the vacant treasurer
position after just recently moving to Des Moines. Steve
currently owns his own franchise business after a career in
real estate. Steve is also a former Chapter Treasurer.
The Housing Corporation has a staggered election structure
so that elections take place every year but terms last two.
This year, there were five out of the ten seats up for reelection. Congratulations to Mark Cowan (1986), Bill
McElrath (1971), Dave Buck (1964), Joe Price (1986) and Eric
Ritland (1990) for their new positions. The Chapter
welcomes and thanks all of you for your service.
Brothers,
We are looking to
expand the news
section to include
some of our
graduate brothers’
achievements. If
you know of any
accomplishments
(such as births or
marriages) made
by your fellow
graduate brothers
that you feel
deserve
recognition, please
feel free to send
them to Alpha Iota.
You can submit
them online
through the
contact us tab at
aifiji.com or mail
them in.
ADOPT A HIGHWAY CLEANUP
On March24, a group of Phi Gams and Sigma Kappas
cleaned a mile stretch of rural highway as part of the
adopt a highway campaign. The cleanup crew spent
two hours picking up trash, which filled eight trash
bags.

Brothers,
The Alpha Iota Association is re-establishing its yearly
Graduate Dues Program. These yearly donations are important
to help Alpha Iota flourish and to help the association provide
benefits to you. Examples are publishing the Brainstorm,
funding for events like Pig Dinner and homecoming, building
improvements, archive restoration, etc.
Please help if you can!
