his year marks another successful year for Brothers who have moved on to
represent and uphold the values of Rho Phi Members and continually strive to obtain in
every aspect of their lives. These Brothers have excelled at Rose-Hulman and continue to
excel in the private sector. Brothers Blake Schulthies and Wes Byers are in Dallas, Texas
working in sales for Texas Instruments. Caleb Comstock, and Matthew Palla are now
working for Marathon Oil, while Zac Erba works for Paragon Medical. Brian Soller is a
Project Engineer employed by the US Army Corps of Engineers. All these successes are
attributed to their success at Rose-Hulman academically and are a direct result of numerous hours of work with brothers to achieve a common goal academically. These are just
some of the successful Rho Phi members who have followed their academic careers here.
This year over 90% of the seniors had already secured jobs before returning to school and
the rest have accepted positions this past quarter. The Rho Phi Chapter will continue to
excel and we look forward to sharing the success of this year’s senior classes and wish
them the best following their graduation.

fourteen All HCAC Football Team award winners, ten were Fijis: Alec Fisher, Chris
Sander, Aaron Abbot, Kaelen Garner, Alec Thompson, Tyler Brutofsky, Kevin
Dufauchard, Craig Larew, Jacob Dye, and Austin Swenson. Austin Swenson established a new school career record
with 57 touchdowns. Austin‘s completion percentage (68.3%) and
passing efficiency rating (165.58) ranked as school record performances. Aaron Abbott set Rose-Hulman's career school records
with 218 receptions for 2,509 yards this season and stands second
in school history with 26 touchdown catches. Abbott led the 2015
team with 53 receptions for 626 yards and three touchdowns receiving. Adding to a great sophomore season, junior Alec Fisher set the

\r\nGrad Brother Parker Speaks at Rush Dinner
Guest Speaker Brother Matt Baber:
Our Celebration of Brotherhood banquet, occurring at the conclusion of fall rush, is an oppor-
tunity for those who are rushing to see the Fiji difference. Matt Baber, a graduate brother who works
as an engineer at International Paper and currently resides in Evansville, Indiana, spoke about Fiji’s
strong influence during and after his college career. Matt was a mechanical engineering major while
at Rose-Hulman. He stressed the important role Fiji played in the development of his interpersonal,
academic, and professional skills. His speaking highlighted how Fiji’s influence translated from undergraduate experiences to life-long benefits in his personal life and in the workplace. Matt’s speech
made an impact on all of the pledges of 2015 and proved to be the high point of an influential, professional event that showcased the Fiji difference.

The 2015 Fall Pledge Class
October ended with a very successful rush for our chapter. We added 36 outstanding young men to our
chapter after 5 weeks of meeting and getting to know many outstanding freshmen and upperclassmen.
While we always seek out quality men, this year came as a pleasant surprise when 85 men indicated they
wanted to meet us during First Formals to find out more about Phi Gamma Delta at Rose-Hulman; this is
compared to our normal 60-65 return rate. We spent time with each man and ended up with more than
50 returning for Second Formals, all interested in considering us for a bid.
After offering 40+ bids, we pledged 36 amazing men from all majors, interest areas and parts of the country. Our pledge class is consistent with the current Rose-Hulman demographics as nearly 70% of the student body is from outside Indiana. This class includes National Merit Scholars, Rose Merit Scholars,
young men who were active in their high schools in student leadership roles and volunteer activities. At
Rose, many of our newest brothers are involved in many sports including football, baseball, track and
field, golf and basketball. We also have pledge brothers who are also involved in many campus-wide
leadership, community service and religious groups. As in the past, we have several legacies who joined
our brotherhood; these include a brother of two current chapter members, two brothers of graduate
chapter brothers, a cousin of a chapter member, and cousins and a nephew of brothers from other chapters.
Because we are constrained with the many IFC regulations, we structured our rush around a variety of
events that allowed us to be flexible and still meet many men. These included football tailgates, cookouts at the house and on-campus, dorm storming, dinners out and our big go-to event—our final week
Celebration of Brotherhood dinner. While the dinner is a very complicated event to plan and execute, it
has become our most popular and successful rush tool. In keeping with tradition of having a graduate
brother speak about Not for College Days Alone, this year Graduate brother Matt Baber talked about his
undergraduate experience and how Rho Phi is still very much a part of his life. As always, we are VERY GRATEFUL for those grads. who honor us by giving of their time to
come back and help us wrap up rush. As always, we thank you for your interest in our
recruitment process and appreciate the recommendations we
received regarding
some of these young men. PLEASE—if you know a young man attending Rose who you
feel would make a worthy Rho Phi brother, don’t hesitate to contact us regarding him.

\r\nBrothers Shop with Underprivileged
Terre Haute Children
Submitted By: Timothy Harlan
Very early--5:30 AM to be exact--on Saturday morning, Dec. 13, more than 50 Rho Phi
brothers gathered at Wal Mart south to assist the Terre Haute Noon Optimist Club to provide
warm winter clothing to over 750 needy local children, from kindergarten through 5th grade.
Groups of 4-5 young boys were paired with two brothers who guided them through the
process, helping them pick out pants, underwear and socks, a hoodie sweatshirt and a warm winter coat. The brothers got to know each child as they not only helped him choose clothes, but also
assisted him and his group to a visit with Santa Claus.
Brothers who did not act as hosts directed the children to get their snacks, helped them with their
visit to Santa and then announced their parents' names to pick them up.
Despite being hobbled with a broken leg during football season, Community Service chair Barry
Tomasetti, Rho Phi senior, still over saw the event from his motorized cart! It is the 6th
year Rho Phi has volunteered with the Noon Optimists, and we are the only Rose fraternity to participate.

Service Event Success: Bikes for Tykes
Following the Clothe a Child event, brothers quickly
made it to Rose-Hulman campus in order to help with another
major service event. Saturday on December 13, Brothers arrived at 8:00 am to put together bikes for Bikes for Tykes.
There was a fantastic turnout and over fifty bikes were built
for children. The event was an overall success and the bikes
were sent out to the Vigo County area for children to get
something extra this Christmas.

\r\nPhilanthropy Events: Football Run
Submitted By: Mitchell Orzech
This year the brothers of Phi Gamma Delta partnered with Fiji Brothers from
Hanover College to once again participate in the Football Run. This year the funds
raised aided the American Red Cross in Indiana significantly and has continued to be
one of the most important events of the year. Brothers from Hanover started the run
by carrying the game football from Hanover College to Bloomington. Then, the brothers from Rose-Hulman took the ball from Bloomington and carried it to RoseHulman. Members of the Rho Phi Chapter brought awareness and aid to the American
Red Cross while offering a memorable event for Brothers and those involved.
2015 marked the sixth running of the annual FIJI Football Run for The American Red
Cross. The game ball covered the 150 mile distance from Rose-Hulman to Hanover
with time to spare, and the Brothers of the Tau and Rho-Phi chapters were able to
help their local communities.
The Rho-Phi chapter alone was able to raise over $4000 for the Wabash Valley Chapter of the Red Cross. The funds will go towards helping local Indiana residents suffering due to fire, flooding, or other disasters to get back on their feet and rebuild.
Mitchell Orzech, this year’s chairman, said, “It was great to see all the support that
we received from brothers, our families, and our community. This event would not
have been possible without so many generous donors. We thank everyone for their
support.”
Follow the FIJI Football Run on Facebook to stay updated on the planning of next
year’s run. Thank you to all who donated!
NoHuddle Remote
Student-athlete Tyler Rockwood of Rose-Hulman and member of the Rho Phi chapter is gaining
global attention with his innovative mobile application. This app provides a solution to the difficulty of
film breakdown with the very popular Huddle software. The problem was brought to Rockwood’s
attention one day during practice early last year. With Rockwood’s knowledge of computer science
and software engineering, he devised a solution which would give coaches the ability to efficiently paly
back and dissect game film. With the help of teammate and business partner, Kevin Trizna, the team of
two began their development of the NoHuddle Remote. After a combined 200 – 250 hours of
development between the two, their software solution was ready to be used by the Rose-Hulman
football team.
Rockwood and Trizna envisioned the app to benefit their team and local teams, but after
5 months from the original publication on the google play and apple app stores the app has exceeded
their expectations. The app has now grown to 2,100 users currently. Among these users are teams that
span from California to Virginia, and include semi-pro teams in London and a team in Japan.
Advertisement and demos of the app can be found on nohuddleremote.com which was created by
Rockwood.
The app integrates the use of the mobile application along with a google chrome extension. This
app seamlessly pauses, rewinds, fast-forwards, etc. in real time just as any competing device would.
However, competing remotes can range from $50-$500, whereas the NoHuddle remote is free for any
apple or android device. The NoHuddle remote works at any range allowed by a shared Wi-Fi
connection. Rockwood, who has accepted a job at Google next year, and Tirzna (Groupon) plan to
continue to work together to release a pro version of the app, which will have more features for
coaches and also utilize the integration of Bluetooth connectivity between devices.

Graduate Updates
Grad relations at the Rho Phi chapter of Phi Gamma Delta is an integral part of our
fraternity. Each year we strive to maintain a close, personal relationship with those who have
come before us and continue to aid in our brothers’ success. We understand the importance of
experience, and are eager to learn all we can from our graduate brothers.
One thing that truly sets our chapter apart shines through during Rose-Hulman’s career
fairs. At this year’s fall Rose-Hulman career fair, over 20 of the companies represented had Rho
Phi Chapter alumni as recruiters. This gives our brothers an incredible advantage when they
begin to look for jobs and internships to carry on their education with hands-on experience. Rho Phi’s take pride in knowing their grads are continuously providing outstanding opportunities and many of our undergraduate students gain jobs simply because they were given
a chance to excel by a Rho Phi graduate. A very helpful tool for those looking for these connections is our chapter’s own online resource called Fiji Finder. This allows our undergraduates
convenient and useful access to former Rose-Hulman Fiji’s.
Each year, homecoming is a special time for our chapter, because many of our members
play, or have played football, or simply enjoyed the school spirit that swells throughout the entire student body. This year we were honored to have many grad brothers return to attend the
festivities. Our graduate relations enjoy providing entertainment throughout the day by welcoming our grads back to both our chapter house and our football field. After the game, we
have a reception at our chapter house for the graduate brothers to cap off the night and share
stories of when they played at Rose Hulman or their experiences as a member of our chapter. Two brothers were even honored for two distinguishable awards that Rose-Hulman gives
out each year at homecoming.
Derek Trobaugh, class of 2006, received the Distinguished Young Alumni Award, which
recognizes Rose-Hulman graduates from the last ten years with notable endeavors in the areas
of career achievement, continued education, community service and/or commitment to their
alma mater. Derek Trobaugh is a Postdoctoral Associate at the University of Pittsburgh in the
Center for Vaccine Research. Here, Derek works primarily in the Regional Biocontainment Laboratory. His research focuses on how mosquito-borne viruses interact with the immune system in hopes of developing vaccines for viruses for which no licensed vaccines currently exist.
In his career, Derek has co-authored seven peer-reviewed publications in high-impact journals;
most notably, he was lead author in a study published in the international science publication,
Nature, in 2014. Additionally, Derek has received two National Institutes of Health Postdoctoral training grants and has been awarded the Young Investigator Award from the American Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene in 2013.
Wes Bolsen, class of 2000, received the Honor Alumni Award. This award is based on
loyal, unselfish and meritorious service in furthering the interests of Rose-Hulman, contributing to the national interest of the country, and professional achievement. He then went on to
receive his MBA from Stanford in 2004. Wes leads global business development and public affairs for Cool Planet, a Google-backed renewable gasoline and Ag company, headquartered in
Denver. He has been the founder and CMO of Coskata, the CFO of ICM - the country’s leading
corn ethanol design firm - and CMO of public company Codexis. In 2011 he was named the top
CMO in the United States, and one of the 10 most influential people in bioenergy globally.
Graduate relations at the Rho Phi chapter of Phi Gamma Delta are fundamental to our
chapter. The members of our chapter are grateful for the opportunities presented to them by
our dedicated graduates. Each year, we strive to create enduring friendships with our graduate
brothers and thoroughly enjoy when they return to dear old Rose.

\r\nRose-Hulman Fall Career Fair Success
Submitted By: Timothy Harlan
On September 22, Rose-Hulman made history with its largest-ever career fair; over 255 companies were represented on campus. Those companies and organizations represented both large and small concerns from coast to
coast and worldwide. Among those companies represented were several that included Rho Phi graduate brothers,
and many of those brothers were kind enough to interview undergrad FIJIs.
It always helps when the chapter gets a heads-up on just who is coming to represent which company, but we
know that is not always possible because some of those decisions are made rather last minute. But of those brothers who came, we are very thankful that several of them went out of their way to speak to, take applications from
and eventually offer jobs to several brothers. Currently, about 90% of our seniors are committed for fall, either
with a signed contract or grad school. Several of them have secured jobs with companies represented by Rho Phi
grad. brothers. Garrett Roecker, with Texas Instruments, sent out a note prior to the fair. Currently there are 5 or
6 brothers employed there including 10-year graduate Morgan Lollar and last-year hires Blake Schulthies and
Wes Byers, both in engineering sales in Dallas. Just hired by TI is senior Milan Thakker. Also interviewing brothers was Marathon Oil, represented by brothers Alex Clayton and Caleb Comstock, who hired senior Chris Sander.
Senior Colton Motz was hired by brother Sam Hill with Bowen, and Matt Baber with International Paper hired
Chem E senior Kevin Garon.
These represent only a small portion of the brothers interviewed or hired by grad. brothers returning for the Rose
Job Fairs. Also present at the fair and speaking to brothers were Steve Parker with ORS, INC; Jason Cooper with
Kimley Horn, Ethan Kestenman with Allison Transmission; John Burkett and Austin Marshall with North American
Lighting; Phil Hardesty with Tate and Lial; Brian Green with TransMarket Group; Billy Buell with GE Aviation;
Brent Frizzell with Endress Hauser; Ethan Kroh with Arco

Rho Phi #1 in Fall Quarter Grades
This past quarter the Rho Phi Chapter continued to excel academically in part due to the
hard work by it’s members and excellent teaching by the Rose-Hulman Faculty. This fall
quarter members of the Rho Phi Chapter claimed top scholarship honors compared to all
other Fraternities on campus. Due to the hard work by its members the Rho Phi Chapter
was able to obtain a 3.16 average overall Grade Point Average. The 2015 Fall Pledge class
also excelled and started their first quarter at Rose-Hulman with a 3.25 average overall
Grade Point Average. This quarter the brothers efforts are due in part to our Scholarship
Chairs; Aaron Abbott and Tyler Rockwood. We look forward to continuing to uphold strong
academic standards for the upcoming quarter.

\r\nFootball Players Named Academic All Americans
This past season, the members of the Rho Phi Chapter excelled both on and off the field.
Most notably Aaron Abbott and Chris Sander have worked tremendously hard and in the end
their efforts paid off. They were apart of three football players this year to receive the Academic
All Americans award for their efforts. They mark the 109th and
110th Academic All-American awards in Rose-Hulman’s history of athletics and set an example for fellow player in all athletics alike.
Aaron Abbott set Rose-Hulman's career school records with
218 receptions for 2,509 yards this season and stands second
in school history with 26 touchdown catches. Abbott led the
2015 team with 53 receptions for 626 yards and three touchdowns receiving, and also rushed for 211 yards and nine
touchdown on 35 rushing attempts. The award marks Aaron's second career Academic All-American award.. In the
classroom he upholds a 3.86 grade point average as a mechanical engineer.
Brothers named Academic AllAmericans: Chris Sander,
and Aaron Abbott
Chris Sander also excelled in the classroom with an average 4.00 grade point average as a
chemical engineering major. Chris started all 10 games at the safety position with 40 tackles, one
interceptions, one fumble recovery and two forced fumbles. His career totals include 182 tackles, eight tackles-for-loss, three interceptions, 22 pass breakups and one fumble recovery. This is
also Chris’s second career Academic All-American award.
The Rho Phi also had a total of 13 brothers earn the title of Academic All-Conference this past
fall: Aaron Abbott, Jacob Dye, Cameron Hart, Chris Johannigman, Craig Larew, Nick Prather, Jon
Poore, Tyler Rockwood, Chris Sander, Alec Thompson, Brandon Volmerding, Jacob Whitacre, and Joseph Woodley. The Rho Phi Chapter is proud for the efforts of all our brothers who
participate in athletics on campus and the efforts of those who succeed in their field. The Rho
Phi Chapter will continue to strive for excellence, and are always humbled by experiences and
acknowledgements such as these.
Cross Country Wins
The Rose-Hulman Men’s Cross Country Team
posted another solid season this year. The team had success in early meets including a 2nd place finish at the Evansville Invitational and the Pre-Regional Meet. The team
capped off their season by winning their second consecutive HCAC championship title in which brothers Addison
Williams and Walt Dearing placed 7th and 8th to earn
All Conference Honors and secure the title. The team then
placed tenth a tough field of forty teams at the Great
Lakes Regional Championships to end the season. Also
competing is freshman Sean Sullivan
