Bowling Green’s
Largest Water Balloon
Fight
The Chi Eta chapter hosted Bowling
Green’s Largest Water Balloon Fight
on Sept. 15. They raised $2,000
for hurricane relief in Houston and
southern Florida.
Starting Sept. 5, the chapter opened
its house to all who wanted to help
fill up balloons, promising a free
social event to the sorority with the
most participation. Brothers and
community members spent about
five hours each day filling up water
balloons and storing them in the
chapter house basement.
A mix of excitement and nerves filled
the morning of the event as brothers
transported more than 42,000 water
balloons to the intramural fields
on South Campus. Members of the
Bowling Green community trickled
in until nearly 10:30 p.m. At the
blow of an air horn, over 200 people
began throwing as many balloons as
they could at anyone in sight. The
event lasted over fifteen minutes, and
nobody made it out dry.

For the fifth summer, members of the
Chi Eta chapter have biked across the
country to raise money and awareness
for Alzheimer’s research. This is the
first consecutive summer Bike4Alz
made the trip, and they raised nearly
$50,000.
Chi Eta brothers founded the
philanthropy know known as
Bike4Alz in 2010. Since then, teams
have raised more than $200,000.
Chi Eta parents planned events in
Louisville and Lexington that together
raised more than $20,000. Brothers
helped raise over $2,000 at the event
in Bowling Green.
The Bike4Alz team had help from
Fijis across the country. At the
beginning of the trip in California,
UC Davis Purple Legionnaire Dennis
Whitcomb played a big role in
supporting the team, and his colony
raised over $1,000 for the cause. Dana
Hesse coordinated the last week of the
trip through Virginia and supported
the team.
