(Unfinished Catalogue) From Mattern: "i[nitiated] Jan. 20, 1866 . . . enrolled, Aug. 30, 1862, as sergt., 7th Co., 1st. Batt., U.S. Sharpshooters; mustered in Sept. 12, 1862, Jamestown, N.Y.; captured Aug. 19, 1864, before Petersburg; confined in Salisbury Prison, N.C.; escaped Oct. 17, 1864, and reached Union lines at Granville, Tenn., Nov. 8, 1864; honorably discharged, June 3, 1864, near Washington, D.C., with rank of adjutant . . . ."
