2020 Rho Alpha at Virginia Tech Chapter House Renovations

Between February and August of 2020, the Rho Alpha chapter house underwent a significant repair and remodeling effort. All bedrooms, living room, dining room, hallways, bathrooms, kitchen and the chapter office saw some combination of wall repairs, new ceiling fans, new lighting fixtures, vanity replacements, plumbing repairs, deep cleaning, fresh wall paint, rugs and window treatments, modernized electrical fixtures, improved fire safety, and precise picture and composite re-hanging. The front side of the house saw the wooden sign with Phi Gamma Delta letters refurbished by pledges of the Delta Mu class, and new illumination by a super bright LED light bar. The front porch was repainted, a new porch light installed, and purple PA (Rho Alpha) letters added. A new, taller flagpole was installed. The back of the house saw new lumber installed to replace rotten boards, and the deck was power washed and stained just in time for fall recruitment events. Graduate brothers Chuck Radford (Virginia Tech 1980) and Dana Hesse (Virginia Tech 1986) each contributed between 300 and 400 hours of handyman labor to the effort. Ward Follette (Virginia Tech 1974) and Richard Eskelund (Virginia Tech 1980) also contributed labor and/or materials. Local grad brother Thom Stanton (Old Dominion 1989) also contributed his carpentry talents in the repair of deficient door frames. Total project cost was approximately $11,000. Several thousand dollars were donated by graduate brothers to the house corporation to help replenish the coffers.
