Durrance award given annually to the Fraternity's outstanding Purple Legionnaire. Following are excerpts of a letter written to Presi dent at the time - William S. Zerman, pub lished in The Friday Letter, a weekly con fidential letter to Undergraduate Chapteur Presidents, Purple Legionnaires, and Gener guide lines al Officers: "On October 17th of this year, you wrote a letter to our President commenting that our attending a football game, in the duties of P. L., his only hesitation was wondering whether or not he could devote enough time he wanted to do. yourself short of for P.L.'s of other chapters, this is your man to contact. I'm not talking about making every meeting (although he's missed only house when we changed the night and failed to no tify him and when he was in the hospital due to an automobile accident. Once out, he attended all meetings, fighting the snow on crutches, or eating dinner at the House every Wednesday. Sure he does this but he also takes the time to get to know much more about the brothers than merely their names. When first installed, he diligently studied the composite of brothers then pro ceeded to go from room to room to meet them pouring rain, (at another University during the Section Gonference) was "real frater all. nity." When I think of "real fraternity",I ; think of one man, our Purple Legionnaire, and what a true Phi Gamma Delta experience ion" which went from 6 pm to past mid night. When asked, during a break half way through, whether he wished to leave, he was quick to reply that he would stay to the end, "whenever that might be." We only has meant to him. We recently had a "sensitivity sess The spark that ignited this letter was his coming home from visiting his son in a hospital, having just missed a week of work due to his son's illness, and stopping by the chapter house to check on anyone who didn't go home for Thanksgiving so he could managed to get through half the brotherhood invite them to his house rents, dispelling bad rumors for the doubt ful frosh's folks and reassuring the others merely by relating what Phi Gamma Delta has to share his fam ily's feast. Through no fault of their own the officers of the Mary McCarty Club lost interest in the organization last year. That situation has now changed and things are now starting to move once again. On Parents Day, Saturday Nov. 11, the Mothers Club met for its first formal meet ing for the school year 1972-1973. Election of new officers took first priority and was dealt with first. We are proud to announce the outcome of these elections(for a period of one year). Mrs. Edward Kinter (Pres.) Mrs. Charles Chistolini (Sec.) We, the Brothers of Phi Gamma Del^a would like to congratualte and thank these mothers for making the EXTRA effort in as sisting the Mary McCarty Club, and their room. This year the brothers have suggested to the Mothers, that one or possible two couches could be purchased to replace the present couches in the living room.. This goal could be achieved if and only if all the mothers will join the club by paying a ten dollar membership fee that entitles them to membership for the school year. The officers have already begun writ ing a News Letter to all the mothers. These News Letters will keep all the members of the Club posted on what the club is doing for the House and also the times and places of any future meetings. We sincerely urge all the mothers to join if at all possible, and hope that this years Mothers Club can be as successful and fullfilling as in past years.
