Chapter President Reviews
Important Issues
Greetings once again from lota Mu. Things here at 28 The
Fenway are going well. We have had a very successful rush,
despite the fact that it was much more competitive than usual
this year. To add to the difficulty, we were burdened by some
restrictions the IFC put on us for violations we had last year.
Our hard work paid off, however, and on Monday morning we
were rewarded with 12 top quality pledges-three more than any
other house on campus had as of Monday night.
Another important issue at the chapter house has to do with
our new neighbors. For those of you who do not know, Montes-
sori Educare (30 The Fenway) is now a condominium, and this
has required some adjustment. However, I am happy to say that
after meeting with the new neighbors several times and inform-
ing the brotherhood of a few minor changes that we have been
asked to make, we now have a very friendly relationship with the
residents next door.
Everything else here at lota Mu remains much the same. I
would like to remind all of our alumni to come by and visit the
chapter house whenever you are in the area. I had the pleasure of
meeting Bruce Rouleau '81 when he was in town from California
early in the term. It is always enjoyable to sit down and exchange
stories with brothers-and Bruce had quite a few. I hope to see all
of you at the pig dinner in the spring, and I would also like you to
start planning now to attend our centennial celebration, which is
scheduled to take place in the spring of 1989.

request, after use in the newsletter.
Directly after pledging, we all got started on the most important
task of getting to know one another and coming together as a
pledge class. Fortunately, all of us are outgoing and friendly, SO it
was no problem becoming friends quickly. I can personally say
that there isn't one of these guys I wouldn't do anything for, and
I'm proud to call them my pledge brothers. We are also becoming
acquainted with all of the brothers here at Fiji. The longer we are
around them, the more we realize how lucky we are to be pledg-
ing Phi Gamma Delta.
The other officers who govern our pledge class are Miles
Arnone, secretary-treasurer, and Rich Rainey, song chairman.
Miles is also holding the important post of change chairman.
Right now, the main objectives of our class are doing our house-
work to the best of our abilities and learning all we can about our
fraternity and its brothers. We're enjoying both, and we're really
"psyched" about all the duties to come.
All is not work for '91, however, as pledge raiding is also a top
priority for us. Going out in the middle of the night to raid other

fraternities is a lot of fun, and it also serves to bring us closer
together as a class. The several road trips we have taken have also
accomplished this, while providing us with an opportunity to

With all of this, plus our regular schoolwork (definitely not to

be neglected) and the many athletic activities many of us are
involved in, the class of '91 of Phi Gamma Delta is a busy
one-but we are definitely loving every minute of it!
This fall, many Fijis again participated in varsity sports here
at good old MIT. Fiji was again the backbone of the varsity

rushing list as he leads the team through the season.

Olson '91, soccer goalie; Ed Sweeney '88 and Sean Walker '89 in

captain of the water polo team; Samir Noriega '90 and Chuck
Venditti '88 on varsity diving; Gerard Loiselle '89 in swimming;
and, last but not least, Sean Walker '89 and Mike de Asla '91 on
varsity crew.
But the real news is in MIT intramurals. After losing three
quarters of the A-league soccer team, captain Bill Lange '90 made
the decision to go B-league for a rebuilding year. And it is paying
off with talent such as Dan "Pele" Dismukes '88 and Eugene
"The Dancing Bear" Sweeney '89 leading the team undefeated
into the playoffs.
Rounding out our undefeated fall season in intramurals is the
A-league football team captained by Paul "Skippy" Anderson
and Bob Martin, both of '90. They are looking forward to a
spectacular play by Jay "Naughty Navajo" Bennett '90, Jon
"The Grinch" Lundberg '88, and Chris "Bonecrusher" Carlson
'91. A new addition to the MIT IM schedule is the 15-man "Octa-
thon." Eight sports are played in tournament fashion with a 15-
man roster. With Fiji's depth and style, an excellent showing is
predicted.
As usual, we are looking forward to basketball and hockey
seasons, both upcoming, and this year we hope to make the

necessary. The boiler is on its last legs and could go any day,
although we hope it can make it through this winter. The
plumbing continues to cause problems with frequent burstings
of rotted pipes. I'm sure everyone has heard from the Centennial
Fund Steering Committee that we need help to keep 28 The
