President's Message
This past fall was very successful in terms of upholding
our fraternity's values and demonstrating a good image
on campus. We implemented different scholarship,
philanthropy, and brotherhood requirements in order to
progress our fraternity and provide our incoming
pledges an example of what it means to be a Fiji. As
the president of the Gamma Deuteron Chapter, I am
very happy with the progress of the brothers within the
past two years in all of these categories and hope to
continue it with our future members. This term as we
bring in new members, we hope to find gentlemen who
will use our five values in their everyday lives and
guide them to become courageous leaders in the
chapter!

Fiji's Spread Awareness on Suicide Prevention
The brothers of the Gamma Deuteron chapter participated in Knox's Fresh Check Day which
strives to bring awareness to social, mental, and physical health
on college campuses. The Gamma Deuteron chapter volunteered
to work the 9/10 initiative booth which helps bring awareness to
suicide prevention. 1/10 college students have thought of or are
thinking of committing suicide; the 9/10 are those who can step
in and help. The undergraduate brothers shared potential risks,

such as, noticing mood changes, lack of interest, missing
Helps
classes, or poor eating habits to designate potential risks of
suicide. Brothers also shared how you can be an active
bystander by talking to someone you think may be at risk, and
helping them to receive professional guidance so that they can
live a healthy life. Our chapter was very proud to participate in such an important campus event.
Our participation gained us recognition from the International Headquarters. We were featured in
the #1006 edition of The Friday Newsletter with brother Julian Wicks as the cover photo.

Homecoming Success Brings Plans for a Bright Future
Homecoming this fall was a major success for the Gamma Deuteron Chapter. The chapter
celebrated the 50th anniversary of the class
of '68 and hosted many other graduate
brothers who attended Knox. Graduate
brothers were able to meet newly activated
members and relive cherished memories
through conversation and photo albums.
Gentleman of the Gamma Deuteron Chapter
shared to the graduate brothers recent
successes of the chapter, updated graduate
brothers on the philanthropy events being
planned and the new housing corp that have
been reestablished. We were also able to
share that the chapter maintained a house
average 3.1 GPA spring term of the 2017-2018 school year.
Along with updates on the chapter, the undergraduate brothers presented a plan to potentially
make improvements to the chapter house. Led by senior house manager Alex Peck ('19), the
chapter discussed possible plans for future renovations of the house.

Exec Board Reflects on Fall Term 2018
This fall, the Gamma Deuteron chapter has worked harder than ever to establish a healthy relationship
with not only the Knox community, but also the Galesburg community. Lead by the 2018-2019
executive board, the brothers have pushed each other to be better and hold each other accountable to
live up to the five values everyday. Giving service and achieving excellence in the classroom have been
two topics that the chapter has really focused on this term. Every Tuesday evening, Brothers had the
opportunity to volunteer at Blessings in a Backpack which provides lunches for Galesburg school
students who may not have access to food over the weekend while not in school. Along with Blessings
in a Backpack, the chapter participated in a school wide competition to donate cans of soup for the
Blessings in a Backpack initiative, donating over 100 cans of soup to the campaign. As mentioned
before the chapter volunteered for Knox's school wide Fresh Check day, explaining the importance of
suicide prevention to students. These are just a few examples of the service that the Gamma Deuteron
chapter has participated so far this
academic year.
Scholarship has been important to the
chapter for building better leaders. The
chapter earned a 3.1 gpa the spring term of
2017-2018 which was a great way to end
the year. The chapter looks to improve
upon this to be considered a top academic
organization on campus.

Upcoming Recruitment for Winter 2019
For winter recruitment 2019, the format has changed so that more students on campus can be aware of
the importance of greek life. Instead of only two nights for recruitment events, each fraternity on
campus will hold a two hour session starting week three of the term. Once each of the six fraternities
holds their scheduled session, there are two nights where the organizations have an option to hold more
recruitment events. In doing so, IFC and the six fraternities on campus hope to bring in larger pledge
classes.
The chapter of Gamma Deuteron is excited for this upcoming pledge class. All brothers have met
prospective new members that show the traits of Fiji gentlemen and are looking forward to the future.
We are excited to expand our chapter's diversity and replace our graduating brothers with courageous
leaders!
Fall Sports 2018
Recording Secretary Kobe Shutter is a member of the Knox
College football team. This fall he was a write-in for the
Midwest Conference South Division All-Conference First
Team. Kobe had 28 receptions for 288 yards and 4
touchdowns which earned him best tight end in the
conference by HERO Sports. Although the Knox College
Men's football team was only 2-8, Shutter contributed as
much as he could while also battling a shoulder injury. He
is on track to be healthy for the spring baseball season.
Brothers Jason White, Noah Manzo, and Duncan Wheeler had a productive fall golf season. The men's
golf team won the Loras Invite this fall with the help of White and Wheeler. White tied for 2nd and
Wheeler tied for 10th. All players are determined to make a difference this fall and bring home the
conference title to Knox.
