1906 May Letter Omicron Deuteron (Ohio State University)
Columbus, Ohio, May 1'3, 190G.
Dear Brother:
This is the first of a scries of letters you will receive from
us. We intend to write one letter a term to the alumni ,of this chapter to keep
tliem posted on the aifairs of Ohio State and especially of Omicron Deiiteron
Ciiaptcr. And we would like very much to hear from you, as to what 3'ou are
doing and how you are getting along. We wish to keep more in touch with our
alumni and you can be of great help to us, especially during the rushing season,
if you would recommend fellows who are coming to State, and whom you know
to be good men.

The University, as you most likely know, has been growing from 3'ear to 3'ear
was, only last month, otiicially recognized by the Ohio Legislature as The IJni-
vcrsitv of Ohio.
We have now eighteen buildings outside of the residences and twm dormitories,

vcar, while the new Chemistry building and the Jlines building have just been
finished.
AYe have two more buildings in view — a Students' building, to contain lounginc- rooms, library, card-rooms, bowling alleys, a large chapel and students' apart
ments, and a Women's building. Tlie Students' building is to'be partially paid for
by subscription, and tlio student body has already raised almost $10,000.
In athletics we had quite a little bad luck last fall financially, but have got
things "oing fine again now. AVe tied with Case lor football chamirionship of
the Biif
and won the basketball championship. Xothing has been done so
far as to baseball but we should stand a good show for honors from the material
we have here. AYe had a big athletics carnival here April 20 and 21, as they have
had at Cornell and Michigan and other schools, and clearned nearly one thousand
dollars.
AA'e have now close to two thousand students enrolled in the various colleges,
.^0 you can see what great strides Ohio State has been taking towards the top of
the heap and of what importance a chapter here must mean to a fraternity.
Kow as to the chapter. AA'e started this year with nine men and directly
after school started pledged seven and have taken in two since then. Three of
our men have been compelled to leave school for various unavoidahl causes, and
although we missed them greatly, our chapter has not suffered as a chapter.
AA^e have the finest lot of men in school, beyond a doubt. All of our Freshmen
received other bids but decided to cast their lot with Phi Gamma Delta, and
althouoli some of the other chapters here are fairly strong we feel assured that
stand at the head and with a little work can get any man we want.
AA^e rent a house located at 1500 Xeil avenue, within two blocks of the school,
and have seven men living there. AVe also serve meals Tor the town men.
AVithin this school 3-car we have bought a lot on East Seventeenth avenue,
the Indianola
addition, which will cost
us $1,500, $200 of which we have already

easy walking distance of the University and in what will be before long one of
the prettiest residence districts in Columbus.
This lot pro])osition has made the fellows work mighty hard, but it was a
good thing. It drew ns closer together. It made us work harder and have more
\r\nof a fraternity spirit, and now we have some definite end to work for — a house —
and we will reach it, too, before long.
Attached hereto you will find a list of the alumni of this chapter, together
with their present addresses. If you know of any that are incorrect and will let
us know it will be of great help to us.
A card catalogue of the fraternity is being prepared by the national officers
and we are of course expected to make up the list of this chapter.
Hoping that this letter will find you in the best of health and prosperity^
we are.
Fraternally yours,
Omicron Deuteron CELiiPTER OF Phi Gamma Delta.
