PIG Dm.3R 1971
The 78th Annual horris Pig Dinner of Chi Chapter was held on
April 17th, and a good turnout indicated that our alumni still be
lieve that Chi Chapter is "not for college days alone." The fes
tivities were, as usual, quite energetic and the fraternal spirit
was evident as Fiji's young and old stood together and sang fra
ternity songs together.
In the annual award ceremony, Robert Teittinen, '71, of -i/'eston,
hass., was awarded the J. liason Hotchj:.iss Award given yearly to
the senior who has contributed the most in his college career to
the chapter. "Tate" has been especially active in the college committe structure and is I.F.C. President this year as well as cocaptain of the rugby team, he was the rush co-chairman who cap
tured a fine pledge class a year ago and he contributed much to the
pledge program as its chairman this year. The Bdxfard deitz Award,
given annuallj^ to that sophomore "v/ho best exemplifies the spirit
of Phi Gamma Delta," was awarded to John KcC. iitherspoon of Aus
tin, Texas. "Tex," as he is icnown around the chapter house, has
been active in the htudent Government, being a student senator and
a member of the Committee on Committees.
He was chosen to serve on
the President's Ad Hoc Committee on College Governance which was a
body charged with restructuring Union's governance and priorities.
Tex also played on the Fiji-dominated rugby team and was a member
of the Pledge Committee this year.
The speaker for the night was Robert lobel, hent dtate '64, and
he graciously obliged the festivities with a speech that was quite
appropriate, however brief,
his speech was well received and af
terwards the night v/as completed by more fraternal spirit around
our familiar bar.
Our hinnble thanks to those alumni who attended,
vv'e extend a warm invitation to those xfho couldn't be here this
year for ^fhat will prove to be an even better Pig Dinner next year.

♦•inother Pig Dinner has come and
gone hut with this one has come
CHI
an even greater realization of how
similar are the grads of even 20
or 30 years ago with the Pijis of
today.
Thfe past year has brought
a large influx of interested,
hard-working aliunni.
It's probab
ly as hard for me to express as it
may be for you to realize what a
tremendous boost your renewed and
sustained concern ha,s given us.
It's a shame that not all of you
have been fortunate enough to wit
ness the wonderful efforts of the
old and new Chi association direc
tors, the BOA, the Purple legion
naires,
and now mosee than ever be
fore, the many untitled and unsung
individuals xfho have worked so
hard with and for the house.
Let's
hope that the ball keeps rolling.
One way that every alumni, near
and far, could help is to be a
rushing assistant.
If some young
man in your area is coming to Un
ion,
plea,se tell him about Chi
and that we v/ould- be anxious to
meet him.
But whether or not* this
happens, please Keep in touch, we
don't want to lose any of our
great aluimii.
In fact if you're
ever in the area,
for business or
pleasure, please stop in - the'
hospitality is truly piji's fin
est.
vi/e've got extra beds, the
food is excellent, the opportuni- "
ties for relaxation are endless,
and you deserve nothing but the
best.
Je hope to see you soon.
