50th NORRIS PIG DINNER GALA
The Norris Pig Dinner was a huge
success again this year as we celebrated
our 50th anniversary with our section
chief, brother John Freeman (Colorado
'36), from Seattle. We had more alums
sign up to attend this year than ever
before but unfortunately, bad weather
through the rugged Idaho mountains
made it impossible for many of them to
join in the celebration.
Brother
Freeman
arrived
with
an
ample supply of champaign from which
all of the Mu Iota Fiji's drank a toast to
the Cheney Cup and the Jordan Bowl.
Brother Dave "Goofy" Goss (Idaho '69)
was master of ceremonies for the evening
and did a fine job, even with his standard
jokes.
The Mary McCartys served an excellent
dinner as always, and our housemother,
Mrs. Karl Klages, was her usual generous
self in organizing and planning the dinner.
Our sincere thanks goes out to the Mary
McCarties and Mrs. Klages.

Pig Dinner in celebration.
Dean Boyd Martin of the College of
Letters and Science, led the class of 1933
in a cheer while all the other alums from

and topics such as rush, drug abuse,

A lot of interesting discussions and
solutions arose from the meeting as well
as some strong friendships formed both at
the meetings, in the bus, and even on the
ocean coast . Attending the convention in
general makes one realize how much
pride he has in being a Fiji.
Bob Melgard ( '56), currently manager
of Robans in Moscow, received a Merit
Citation honoring his outstanding Service
to the University. He has been very active
in alumni activities both at Mu Iota and
the University.
All in all, Mu Iota took more than its
share of awards and honors, which are
merely recognitions of its successes and
triumphs on the University of Idaho
campus and to Phi Gamma Delta.
