Hello Graduates!
Season's Greetings from the frozen wasteland known as Terre Haute.
It's a toasty -5 degrees P outside as this is put to paper, but
the holiday spirit has not hit us yet at Rho Phi because we have
classes clear thhough Friday the 23rd. Regardless of that dreary
fact, we sincerely hope the holiday season is going well for all
of our graduate brothers and their families.
We would like to
thank those of you who remembered us with Christmas cards and
notes. Why hot make it a habit to drop us a note every thhee or
four months and let us know how you are doing?
This newsletter i«
announce that our Chapter Retreat has been
set for January 21 at Tiuckey Run State Park. We would like to
invite all of our graduates'to ;)oiri us for the festivities.
If
you would like to attend Retreat, please let us know soon so that
we may reserve a room for you. Applications for refereeing the
annual Universe Bowl (once again featuring the annually undefeated
actives team vs. the Ibwlife, scumbag pledges) are available. We
hope to see a good number of graduates there.
The focus of our Retreat activities will be the formal pledging
of our new pledges. Twenty-three of the finest young men at Rose
(19 frosh,4 sophs) ^oi^^ed
ranks on December 12, Bid Monday.
After dinner at the House, Rush Chairman Jon Pelland and his
committee met our friend Jack with Brother Mike McKee making a
special guest drinking appearance. The pledges then took over
the activities by tubbing the actives in extremely cold water.
An enjoyable time was had by all as the Chapter welcomed in
another impressive pledge class. The pledges' names and hometowns

We have not received much in the way of graduate news, lately.
We
are happy to report that Tom Pields (79) and wife Paula informed
us of the birth of a son, Jerod Thomas, on October 27, 1983.
Also, Chuck Huffman dropped us a note saying that he is now working
in real estate in Austin, TX.
Chuck' s wife, Shirley, is .being
kept busy taking care of their one year old son, Aaron..
A good number of Pijis gathered in Port Wayne recently for the
marriage of Graduate Brother Pete Watson (83) and Karen Crownover.
Fourteen graduates and fourteen undergraduates witnessed Pete's
and Karen's vows and had a really great time at the .refOeptiQn
follbwihig:. Grad. Brothers Dave Letteri (83), Steve Npwak (83),
and Kent Eaton (83) served as groomsmen fo-r Pete.. The- following
graduateis were also in attendance:
Gary Stephens (81)
Alan Yarcusko (83)
Art Schxiltz (81)
Kevin Pagan (83)
Royce Ramsay (82)
Jeff Clanton (83)
Bruce Fleck (82)
Rob Wilson (83)
Dave, Roth:
; Russ Hopkine (83)
Greg Swinehart (83)
The receptipn moved into G. Step.'s Holiday Inn room during the
early morning-hours v/ith the hotel security even stopping by to
try to calm the crowd. All in all, everyone truly enjoyed^sharing
the evening with Pete and Karen.
Good luck tc the Watsons and
thanks again for asking us to be v/ith you!
Moving to a couple final pieces of business, we would like to remind
you of our need to pay off our computer loan from,-the House Corp.
A few donations have been coming in, and we appreciate those,
however, we still have a sizable debt left. We hope you will
remember us and help us relieve this financial burden,
r
We are also asking for graduate input on another pro;ject taken
up by Brother Sean 0'Shaughnessy and Pledge Jeff Wheeler. They
are interested in gathering a book of Rho Phi trivia from through
out the years. Any items of interest about the House or particular
events of your college days are appropriate. Please Jot this in
formation down in a note and send it to us. If enough trivia is
contributed, Sean and Jeff hope to have this done by Pig Dinner.
Speaking of Pig Dinner, an^exact date has not been set yet, but
as soon as we finalize plans, we v/ill let everyone know.
For
\r\nnow, we hope you can make plans to join us at Turkey Run on
January 21 for Retreat. A large number of graduates will only
add to our fim and truly show the pledges that Phi Gamma Delta
is "not for college days alone."
Prom the men of Rho Phi, may all the joys of Christmas and a happy
new year be bestowed on you and yours.
Fraternally yours,
Brent A. Mewhinney
Graduate Relations Chairman
