Sigma Mu Chapter of Phi Gamma Delta — Fall '71
Letter From The
President
This semester has heen very exciting for Sig^a
Mu Chapter at Mississippi State. The plans for
this Fall semester began in early June. Plans were
drawn for remodeling a wing of our house, summer
rush parties began, meetings were held with our
House Corporation, and when there was time, we
many times, and we are eternally grateful to them.
It was with their assistance that we were able to
purchase new living and dining room furniture.
With new techniques learned at the Fiji Acade
my, we pledged our largest pledge class in the
history of Sigma Mu Chapter. Many thanks to all
of our Brothers from whom we learned these fines
ses.
We are looking forward to an even more excit
ing Spring semester and a "New Year".

attended classes.
Work began on the house in late July. As a
result of this, the remodeling was not completely
finished by the time Fall semester began. All the
Brothers came back a week early to speed the pro
cess of cleaning and moving.
Several summer rush parties were held during
July and August. Actually, the parties served a
two-fold purpose of meeting rushees and getting to
see all the Brothers again. We gained valuable
knowledge of the worth of a summer rush program.
Our House Corporation has been one of the
most valuable assets of our chapter. These men
have devoted their time, money and personal help

FALL SEMESTER 1971
Fiji Football
The 1971 flag-football season for the Sigma
Mu Phi Gamms was an exciting one, indeed. The
offense, much improved over the last few years,
utilized the wishbone-T to balance the passing at
tack, which perhaps was the most improved over
all. However, the defense had its share of spectacu
lar plays as it held opponents to the fewest number
of points ever. The '71 Fiji's turned in their best
season ever as they posted a record of five wins
and five losses in regrular season play, which was
good enough to secure a position in the play-offs.
In the rain and mud, the Fiji's met Sigma Chi in
a hard fought battle which eventually eliminated
fUlj .fi»
Fiji from the play-offs. Fiji had held Sigma Chi
scoreless for three quarters, but that was not
enough, the "Mud Bowl" proved defeat.
We are certainly proud of our football team
and we look forward to bigger and better things
next year. Meanwhile, Fiji basketball is about to
begin and this, too, promises to be an exciting
season in Phi Gamm sports. The first game is
January 5th, so — Go! Fiji!
