The Russell Street Review
By the Brothers of Lambda Iota of Phi Gamma Delta
October 10, 1972
Vv'e would greatly appreciate your cooperation in filling
out and returning the questionaires on the last page. This
will allow us to orient the coming issue of "Boilermaker Fiji"
towards graduate interests. The coming issue will also feature
rebuilding plans at 640 Russell.
The San Francisco Ekklesia
The 1972 Ekklesia was held in San Francisco in late
August.
Jamie Pratt represented the Undergraduate Chapter.
Bill Miller, our Section Chief, and Richard Crowder were the
local grads present.
Ralph V\/oodley, a 1948 Lamda Iota, worked as a represent3tive of the Alpha Graduate Chapter.
Brother Woodley
presently is living in Palo Alto,
Bill Smith, leader of the Rochester Crad Chapter, crossed
the continent tb enjoy the Ekklesia. Bill graduated in 1939.
Fred Foley, a 1945 grad from Livermore, California, was
also present.
The Ekklesia began with an evening chartered boat ride
from sunset to 10:00 P.M.
The ride included a jazz band,
dinner and drinks.
Bill Miller's "caucas" resulted in a super
beer blast.
Getting into full swing, Memphis State and Western
Michigan received their charter. Jim Lang, the host of T.V.'s
"Dating Game" was the surprise M.C.
Doc Crowder na rrowl missed being designated an Archon.
This was really quite an honor, for he was greatly handicapped
by being nominated late.
A gathering place for all the Phi Gamm's in San Franciscd
was the Rite Old Poodle Dog Restaurant.
The place is sign
ificant, in that in 1906 Frank Norris first read "Exiles
, Toas.t" at a Pig Dinner held there.
Grads Welcome To Meals
We are continuing our meal policy of last semester.

Please come and enjoy Mrs. Ryan's fine cuisine.
Also, all Fijis are invited to the monthly graduate luncheon
at the Lafayette Country Club. This is on the first Friday
of each month and no reservations are necessary.
Pig Dinner for 1973 has been scheduled for March 23.

"Socitement '72" of the Boilermaker's grid effort vjill
feature the new wishbone offense.
This offense is desj-gned,
to give Purdue's fleet runners, Ctis .Armst 'ng and Daryl
Stingley, outside running room.
Junior Bob Bobrowsk • has won the starting 7B job.
His running a-bility makes him much more adaptable to the whisbone than last year's nuufoer one IB, Gary Danielson. Steve
Burke, Purdue Fiji and .junior 0,3, has always been a dropback passer and is suffering with the wishbone.
Jack Spellmen, a senior Fiji, is playing fullback, but
has been hampered aomevPnat by hamstring problems.
Sophomore
Phi Gamms, Pete Gross and Rick Oliver, are working at line-'
backer. Bill Matthews is playing at the cornerhack soot and
big Dale 'ialker is playing defensive end and is punting.
There should be plenty of action in "Excitement '72".
Phi Gamma Delt-'^ has also made arrangements to sit vjith Pi
Beta Phi at the games to add to the action.

V7itb the fund-reislng drive to renovete the bouse in full
swing, the brothers beve stsrted off this f"ll with e few
cbsnges of their ovjn.
RecentIjr, brothers have been compleinins
sbout the poor study etmosobere in the study rooin in the
bssement.
.As a result, we have decided to swit b the T.V.
room with the study room downstairs.
The
couches
and
the T.V.
were
moved downstairs
and
several
study tables and eotra lamps were put into the "ne*-:'" study
room.
Also vie are trying to add to the library and possibly
install overhead lighting for an improved study atmosphere.
The "new" T.V. room already had a pleasant and relaxing
atmosphere and new indoor-outdoor carpeting v/ss laid in there
last year.
We are still in the e perimentation stage, but
most of the brothers agree that this arrangement is much more
functional.
After all, what's better than watching Sunday
football dov;n at Tillie's.'
Rush for
the Best
Rush for the 1972-73 school year is now getting into full
swing.
Thanhs to our grads and undergrads the rush committee
has received a total of 90 recommend at .ions for prospective
Phi G-amms. This rush season promises to be an eventful one '
as parties and house functions are planned for every weelend
until a new class is tahen.
Scheduled are a canoe trip, a
picnic with dates, two dances, as well as our annual "roller
derby" shating party, just to mention a few.
ThanUs again for all the recommend at ions--we can't miss
tahing another great class.
