PIG DINNER
Norris
26
Dinner
This year's 12th Annual Norris Pig Dinner will
be held the weekend of April 25—27. The Speaker
will be Dr. Tommy Williams, an Auburn Fiji. Dr.
Williams, who graduated from the University of
Alabama, is a former Archon President. We look
forward to a very entertaining and motivating
speech.
Following an open bar, the dinner will begin
at 6:00 on Saturday night. Once again the ban
quet will be held at the Georgia Center for Con
tinuing Education. We are also planning a brunch
for Sunday morning.
It is important for all graduates to register at
the house Friday afternoon or Saturday morning.
Registration allows us to keep our graduate mail
ing list current and also allows you to participate
in the activities and the banquet.
Everyone here is really looking forward to this

Scholarship continued to be an area of great
strength. We won the IFC scholarship trophy for
the ninth year in a row. This is a record our
eleven-year-old chapter points to with pride.
Kappa Deuteron continued to be actively
involved in athletics and campus organizations
this year. Among the many achievements were
the winning of the University's intramural athle

The Eta's, though few in number, showed a
zeal and ardor not likely to be easily outdone.
They definitely exemplified "Quality not Quan

competition.
The winter quarter rush for this year was one
of the most successful our chapter has had in
recent years. We took 9 pledges to help carry on
the fine traditions of this fraternity.
Tangible acheivements such as the Cheney
Cup and other notable acheivements are fine in
themselves; however, the brothers of Kappa
Deuteron attribute our success to our strong
brotherhood—the essence of Phi Gamma Delta.

FRENCH WHORE 1980
On the evening of January 18, 1980, the
Kappa Deuteron Phi Gams were in rare form. It
was that time once again when the dudes of 3
Cloverhurst cruised the red light districts of Athens
(e.g.. Milledge Ave.), searching for those special
ladies to accompany them for an evening of
illicit behavior. Yes, I am referring to the campusreknown FIJI French Whore.

Hope to see everyone at Pig Dinner!
After a full week of rummaging through spe
cial inventories of Kennon's Formal Wear, Sanford and Son's, Potter's House, Allen's, the Salva
tion Army, and other establishments of fine
clothing, everyone had what they considered to be
the perfect outfit. The place was the Howard
Johnson's lounge. The time was 9:00 — until
all " merchandise" was sold. The band waswho else but "Doug Clark and the Hot Nuts."

BASEMENT UPDATE
WINTER
SPORTS
Last spring at the annual Parent's Day, the
undergraduate brothers shared with the parents
their desire to fix-up the basement. At that time,
the parents offered many practical ideas on how to
accomplish this project.
This past fall several brothers returned to
school early and painted the basement. Upon com
pletion of this phase of the project, an appeal
was made to the parents for donations to the
The Phi Gams had a good quarter in athletics
once again. After a disappointing start, we rallied
for a strong finish which left us in second place
for the quarter. We made a good showing in
volleyball and tennis, but the bulldog push-ups
were all ours as we had the top three men and
won the competition for the second year in a
row. The chapter has decided to subdue the Chi
Psi's for the rest of the year and obtain the number
one slot for the third consecutive time. In the

basement renovation fund. Many parents respond
ed faithfully. The Zeta Deuteron pledge class
also contributed their pledge class money to the
project. Together there was enough money to buy
tile to cover the basement floor.
A few brother stayed after fall quarter exams
to lay the tile. It was quite an experience to lay
675 square feet of tile; however, after many long
hours the job was completed.
The basement now looks like a different place.
Further plans for renovation are being considered.
Any ideas or contributions to the basement fund
will certainly be appreciated.

SOCIAL
This year the Fijis are ever increasing their
reputation as a true social fraternity. Good en
thusiasm and excitement after a long summer
break made every one of our fall quarter socials
a success. The Kappa Delta's, Alpha Chi Omega's,
Chi Omega's, and the Tri Delta's were all on our
calendar when we returned for another season with
the Dawgs. After the football season started, it
was evident the Phi Gam's were getting keyed up
for the annual Georgia/Florida Football Fling.
Everyone came back from Christmas holi
days anticipating a wild winter quarter. Winter
quarter started with a bang with two back-toschool socials with the Alpha Omicron Pi's and the
Phi Mu's, not to be outdone by the later Kappa
Alpha Theta and the Zeta Tau Alpha socials.
Purple Garter saw many beautiful legs during
the "garter ceremony." Purple Garter was held in
Gatlinburg, Tennessee. Everyone enjoyed the
SCHOLARSHIP
The 1979—80 academic year has proven to be
no different from the past eight years in terms of
campus scholastic standings for Kappa Deuteron.
The Phi Gams at the University of Georgia are
presently ranked first among all other fraternities
in scholarship with an overall average of 3.00.
Close behind with an overall 2.95 average are the
Sigma Pi's. We hope to maintain this lead through
out the winter quarter in order to claim the trophy
for the ninth straight year. Thirteen brothers
made Dean's List fall quarter and as a result,
helped the chapter compile its highest quarterly
average of 3.05 in the last three years. These
brothers will be served steaks while all other
brothers will be awarded pork and beans in our
first. Steak 'n Beans Dinner. The only brother
still maintaining a perfect 4.0 cumulative average
is Herbert Short, a third quarter sophomore in

break from school and cuddling up by an open fire
with their date.
Spring will be greeted with a Kappa Kappa
Gamma, Sigma Delta Tau, and a Chi Omega
social as well as Fiji Island. That's right. Fiji
Island is right around the corner—May 16,17. The
"Sand & Suds" party will be held in Ft. Walton
Beach, Florida. The brothers welcome all graduate
brothers to all of our social events. Just drop us
a card letting us know you are coming and what
kind of accommodation you desire. A combined
effort by both undergraduates and graduates
will make each party more enjoyable.

The Theta Deuteron pledge class continues its
goal toward brotherhood this winter quarter. The
fraternity boast of having the "sharpest" men on
