Homecoming 1980
NOVEMBER 1980
THE
PRESIDENT'S
GAVEL
Scott Kenney and Coyet Lowery show off trophies.
This year the Fiji's carried on
our fine Homecoming tradition by
bringing home two major honors.
For the second year in a row, we
won first place in the float compe
tition. Leading the Fraternity's
generous overall support and the
Alpha Chi Omega's, were brothers
Coyet Lowery, Steve Hardy and
Dan Cowart. Enough thanks can't
be given for the long (and late)
hours put into the float by these
men.
Our good showing in the float
competition lead to a first place tie
for overall honors. This honor was
acquired by FIJI effort in all cate
gories and events. Some of them are:
the Bulldog Bazaar, where Brother
Paul (Bam-Bam) Putney told many
fortunes; the Bulldog Stampede, a
6.2 mile road race where Brother
Steve Justice made a fine showing;
the Miss Homecoming competition
— our Sweetheart Sue Knight was
our entry; the Homecoming Skit,

happy to report that under the
leadership of Treasurer Larry

almost zero. Both the brothers and
the pledges have taken their finan
cial obligation to this Chapter very
seriously, and they have done a
great job. Also, after speaking with
graduate observers of tne Chapter, I
feel it is their consensus that
Chapter tone is the best it has been
in quite some time.
Financially speaking, there are
still many graduates who owe the
Chapter money. This debt comes to
over $2,000 with individual bills
ranging from $50 to $15. To my
knowledge Larry has contacted
every Graduate Brother with an
outstanding bill, and we hope the

the Chapter much "younger" than
it has been in many years. Thus, the
pledges must be called on to accept
the lowest form of life on earth."
However, as pledges go, this is a
pretty sharp group. Phi Gamma
Delta prides itself on pledging men
of diverse backgrounds and inter

ception. It is even fortunate enough
to be seasoned with several upperclassmen who will hopefully pro

the pledge class.
Since Kappa Deuteron is in
somewhat of a transition period,
the Brothers are looking to these

It is always exciting to witness

the disappearance of the Hoiwaks
has led to the deterioration of our
entire athletic organization due to
the fact that the Honyaks have
seeped into our regular teams and

I asked our sports star Rocky
