FUrS WIN BOUTS
Even under the shadow of the Ali-
Holmes Fight, the Boxers of Lambda lota
shone brilliantly in the annual Purdue
Boilerbouts. For the first time since we
entered the charity brawls back in 1976,
the FIJI'S swept all three of our weight
classes: Light, medium and heavy. Rob
Weaver ('82) our lightweight gave his op
ponent 4 standing eight counts to win.
Mike Langdon ('83) won by unanimous
decision and Tom Nine ('82) knocked his
man out in the night cap.
The Boilerbouts is interfraternity com
petition among 8 fraternities, each house
squaring off against the same opponent
every year. We fight the Lambda Chi's.
The money raised through ticket sales is
given to the United Way. This year a
record $3,700 was raised. It is an exciting
event - and Victory - Oh How Sweet it is!

DOC'S CORNER
It's hard for me to recall the past in
detail because there is so much going on
in the present. I do remember, though,
after a period of four months casing the
joint in the fall semester of 1937, that I
wrote a note to Don Morrision ('38), house
president, asking him to the Blue Blazer
and then out to dinner. It didn't work out
that way. The second semester was
young, and there was time to play. On the
day he received my communique, Don
showed up at University Hall looking for
me. It didn't take long for a pattern to
establish itself: we were off for the Blazer
with George Aschauer and some other
Seniors, and then we returned to 640
Russell for dinner. That started it, my
brothers-42 years of the richest friend
ship imaginable.
My salary that first year was a plump
$1700, out of which I saved enough to go
to Europe that summer for six weeks with
Graduate Brothers. If you know of an
outstanding senior in High School who is
thinking of coming to Purdue in 1981
Don (he was 22 and I was 28.) I wouldn't
get very far out of West Lafayette these
days on what was left from $1700!
