FALL 1998
ALPHA UPSILON FINISHES A GREAT YEAR
Hello from Auburn,everyone! This
past school year, as it seems true for
all of them, has truly flown by. We
have been very busy down here on the
plains, landscaping the front yard, ini
tiating pledges and of course, enjoy
ing Fiji Island. Since you last heard
from us, we have initiated a total of32
pledges who came to us from as far
away as Oregon and as close as here in
Auburn.
This year has truly been a success!
We are pleased to tell you that once
again, we won the All Sports Trophy
in intramural athletics. After a strong
showing in all of our fall sports, we
were able to win the fraternity basket
ball championship in the winter. We
'iiBi
continued to be strong in the spring
with a championship game appearance
in Softball and wins in many other
spring sports.
The beginning of spring quarter
brought about what we hope to be the
start of a new tradition here at Alpha
Upsilon. For the first time in a few
years, we had the Pig Dinner during
the spring. We had a band party on
Friday night, a golf tournament in the
morning on Saturday and AU baseball
in the afternoon. The 36th annual Pig
Dinner that night was a success, and it
was good to see so many graduates.
We appreciated everyone who was
able to make it and we look forward to
more of you coming down next year
and possibly joining us on the links
again. For some, that means we need
to start practicing now for next year!
In ajoint effort with the House Cor
poration this year, we set out to im
prove the front of the house. From
repairing the wall in the front to laying
sidewalks and planting sod and new
Fim
trees, we have continued to be certain

the house at night. We look forward to
all of the graduates being able to see
the improvements in the fall during
football season.
As it seems every year, Fiji Island
was bigger and better than it has ever
been. It served as a great relief from
the rigors of studying and tests that

Alpha Upsilon Preparing for Rush
As you well know, rush is the single
ing rush.
We would like your help. If you
know of anyone who may be coming
through rush this fall, please let us
know. We have already had four sum
mer rush parties this summer, and we
would like any recommendations you
might have. The fall rush dates are

most important activity our chapter is
involved in. A good rush makes a huge
impact on a chapter and a quality
pledge class is what turns a good fra
ternity into the best fraternity.
We at Alpha Upsilon Chapter have
prided ourselves in giving bids to
some of the finest young men who
have come through the doors of Au
burn University. Our goal is to con
tinue to make our fraternity better by
continuing to strive for excellence dur

FallFootball Tailgating
Last year's Auburn football season was full of much anticipation and excite
ment. It was great to watch the team capture the SEC Western Division Title and
compete in the SEC Championship.
The 1998 season will be underway shortly, with many exciting games on the
schedule. We encourage all graduate brothers to come by the house to tailgate
before each home game. Fiji's own chef extraordinaire, Luther Ford, will be
serving lunch prior to each game.
This is a great time to see old friends and meet some of the new brothers.
Please feel free to drop by anytime.

forward to seeing everyone in the fall
for football season and tailgates.
Please send us any recommendations
that you might have for rush. We are
very interested in your ideas and
recommendations for rush.
We are looking forward to a very
good rush in the fall, having graduated
one of the best pledge classes this
spring that we have seen around here
in a while. Many of them, as many of
you did yourselves, are headed on to
graduate school or are starting their
new jobs soon. Good luck with every
thing, and we look forward to hearing
from you all soon. War Eagle!

Graduate Assistance Ensures BestRush Results
While much can be said about the
recent advancements made in nearly
every facet of fraternity and campus
life for Alpha Upsilon Chapter, there
is a particular facet about which
enough can never be said.
The chapter's rush chairmen have
been doing an excellent job locating
and pledging the best young men at
Auburn University, but there is always
room for improvement. The best im
provement any of the brothers can
come up with is more interaction by
graduates in the rush process—
namely,recommendations.
