NEWSLETTER OF THE ALPHA NU
CHAPTER OF THE FRATERNITY '
OF PHI GAMMA DELTA
A new spark has emerged from the ashes of Phi Gamma Delta here in Albuquerque.
After several attemts at its renovation, the Albuquerque; Graduate Chapter looks as
if it will be alive and functioning by the end of the year. The interest in
re
instating a graduate chapter has become greater than ever, in almost an opposite
direction from where it had been headed in the recent past. The undergraduate Grad
uate Relations Committee and the Graduate Chapter Steering Committee have been
working together to come up with ideas as well as establish a meeting time for
all graduates, which should be finalized by the end of the month. For the moment,
all graduate Fiji's are encouraged to come to a "bar night" on October 18 at the
Alpha Nu chapter house, 1801 Mesa Vista, N.E. Cocktails before U.N.M.'s homecoming
game, as well as the traditional "fifth quarter" afterwards, are also planned to
be held at the chapter house. Everyone interested in meeting the members of the
steering conmittee or just becoming a little mo're "purple" is invited. Breakfast
meetings are being planned for the Graduate brothers on the first Monday of every
month, starting in November.
One of'the persons responsible for all of the
new enthusiasm is Ed Bel knap , a Phi Gam from
Richmond, Virginia. Ed now works with the Big
Brothers and Big Sisters of Albuquerque program.
With over 150 Fiji graduates in the Albuquerque
area, Ed couldnH; understand why the graduate
program wasrft stronger. Being blessed with a bit
of extra time, Ed has almost single-handedly
put the graduate program back into high gear,
with his appearances at the Graduate Relations
committee meetings, not to mention his unstinting
telephoning. Sam Honegger, co-founder of the
Alpha Nu chapter back in 1966, and Mike Castillo,
Graduate Relations Committee Chairman deserve a
good bit of credit and thanks, for without their
efforts this worthwhile endeavor would not be
moving.

ALBUQUERQUE GRADS REORGANIZING
Last Thursday night, the first meeting of the Albuquerque Graduate Chapter
steering committee was held at the Alpha Nu chapter house. It was the first
meeting of any kind that the city's graduate brothers had held in a long
time. The purpose of the meeting was organizational in nature for the purpose
of re-establishing the graduate chapter.
Present at the meeting were Alpha Nu graduate brothers Mark Raybould and
Todd Franklin. Ed Belknap , a graduate Fiji from Richmond, Virginia, also
attended. Representing the Graduate Relations Committee were undergraduates
Tim Turner, Bill Kiesel, Ethan Hay and Mike Castillo, the chairman of the
committee, and Phil Sisneros, chapter president. Sam Honegger, chapter found
er, and Rick Hobson, president of Alpha Nu's Housing Corporation, had planned
to attend the meeting, but their busy schedules and concommitant conflicts
made their attendance impossible.

\r\nThe meeting covered topics such as the establishment of a Board of Chapter
Advisors (BCA). The BCA would consist of five to ten graduate brothers and
would function as a coordinating entity between the Graduate Chapter and the
undergraduate Chapter in order to provide advisement in such matters as
finances, rush, etc. Recommendations are now being taken for members on the
BCA by Mike Castillo, as well as suggestions for the re-formation of the
Graduate Chapter.

The graduate relations committee is an old committee but it has a new goal;the
reestablishment of a graduate chapter of the Alpha Nu chapter of Phi Gamma Delta. In
the past there has been limited communication between undergraduates and graduates.
This committee hopes to resolve the problemi
We plan to set forth activities which will produce increased interactions between
graduates and undergraduates as well as between the graduates themselves. Some func
tions already underway are a Homecoming cocktail party this weekend (Oct. 6), bar
nights at the house on the third Thursday of the month (hopefully beginning in Oct.),
and breakfast meetings with graduates the first Monday of each month starting in Nov.
These are just a few of our ideas and we would welcome any others which one might
have.
The Alpha Nu chapter is also starting a Board of Chapter Advisers (BCA). The
function of the BCA is to come down to the house once a month to meet with the under
graduate cabinet and committee chairmen in order to evaluate chapter goals and make
suggestions. Recommendations are now being taken for positions on the BCA, which
will consist of roughly five to ten members.
The graduate relations committee is filled with hopes of starting a strong Albu
querque Graduate chapter of Phi Gamma Delta. The only way to achieve such goals is
through hard work on the part of both
graduate and undergraduate chapters. The
undergraduate chapter is ready and willing for envolvement of agraduate chapter.

Graduate Relations Chairman
