COMMITMENT CONTINUES AT CHI IOTA
Dear brothers;
I would like to take this opportunity to update the Alumni relative to progress the
Chapter has made since the last time I had written you.
As previously discussed, from my view point, the Chapter has made a dramatic
improvement with respect to the attitude to the undergraduates and their commitment to the
fraternity. This turn-around evidenced itself throughout last semester and into this semester.
Our concern from the standpoint of the Trustees and the House Corporation has been
whether the quality of men we had at the Chapter was sufficient to make the financial
commitment necessary to work through the rebuilding process. It was and continues to be
the consensus of the Trustees and the House Corporation that the core of present
undergraduates is certainly of a quality to justify the necessary financial commitment.
Accordingly, our focus has shifted this semester to working towards bringing the
Chapter into a financially solvent position. It has been our thought that if the undergraduates
showed a continued commitment towards rebuilding the numbers with quality men, that the
House Corporation and the Alumni would stand behind them through the process of
rebuilding financially.
I am happy to report that the undergraduates have met this challenge and pledged
approximately 19 new men, and that 42 members are living in the house for this semester
with a realistic goal of 50 for the spring semester. I would like to take this opportunity to
express our thanks to the undergraduates for this effort, and our encouragement to continue
the rebuilding process. The efforts to date have met or exceeded our expectations, and I
would think that by next year we could be in a position o1 breaking even or better.
We have stepped up our collection efforts with respect to account receivable owed the
Chapter, and I am happy to report that all in house members are current on their house bill
As to "out-of-house" collections, we have been successful in our first litigation effort and
continue pressing to collect the accounts receivable.
There are several capital improvement projects that are necessary to keep the house
in respectable condition, and accordingly, I would encourage the Alumni to contribute to
these projects to the best of their respective abilities. In the past, we have called on the
Alumni, and perhaps not justified the bases for the requests. In this case, I can assure vou
that the funds received will not be spent on paying old house bills or current operations but
rather will be ear-marked for specific improvements so that the fraternity can continue to
operate and exist. In the meantime the burden of day-to-day operations will remain with the
undergraduates. As these undergraduates have made a substantial financial and personal
commitment, I feel justified in asking for your support to provide the entire fraternity (includina
the graduates) with a pleasant environment and respectable facility. (cont= on page 2)
