Alpha Nu Wins International Awards
By Jeff Thompson
In the Spring of 1990, Alplia Nu
turned in an awards packet to
national headquarters for the first
time in recent iiistory. This packet
detailed everything we had done as
a chapter last year. We were
confident that our successful year
would earn us some recognition at
Ekklesia. However, we had no idea
we would receive three of the
twelve major awards presented.
These awards included The Condon
Cup for the most improved chapter.
The Owen Cup for most improved
scholarship, and the Durrance
Award given to Joseph Samora for
being the outstanding Purple
Legionnaire. Winning these awards
was an incredible surprise, and
made our week in Chicago a
memorable experience. Although
we worked quite hard last year, we
could not have accomplished what
we did without the help of our
graduates. We thank you for your
support, and sincerely hope we
have made you proud to be an
Alpha Nu graduate. It will be hard
to match last years success at
Ekklesia, but we are striving to
maintain our level of intensity and
excellence.
IFC AWARDS
In addition to the national
awards won. Alpha Nu's
success was also recognized by
the Interfraternity council at the
annual Greek Banquet. Awards
won include: Best Pledge
Education Program, Greek
Unity,
Best
Junior
IPG
Participation, and for the second
year in a row. The Presidents

Alpha Nu Philanthropy
By Denver Miller
At the beginning of the fall '90
semester the chapter met during a
retreat to discuss plans for the
upcoming year. We had had a
successful year, but there is always
room for improvement. In
reviewing the past year, we
attempted to identify areas in which
we could work harder and improve
our performance. It became quite
obvious that our biggest weakness
was in our community service
program. Thus, we restructured
our philanthropy committee and
decided to shoot for an
accomplishment that Alpha Nu had
not previously achieved. Our goal
this year is to win the campus
community service award, and
through the hard work of chairman
Steve Thomas, and the entire
chapter, we are well on our way.
We began our service campaign by
coordinating the first annual FIJI
Haunted House. Through over a
month of hard work, we converted
the chapter house into a haunted
house which required over forty
people to operate, and took fifteen
minutes to walk through. The
project was a huge success, raising

of greater Albuquerque. It's
amazing what you can accomplish
when you combine the brother's
talents, graduate assistance, and just
plain hard work. We plan to make
next year's Haunted House bigger
and better! Our other community
service endeavors this year include:
Helping to organize and driving in
the motorcade during President
Bush's visit to Albuquerque, The
Duke City Marathon, The festival of
trees, ushering a conference in
honor of Dr. Martin Luthor King,
selling shamrocks for Jerry's kids.
and dressing up as Vince and Larry
the crash dummies during Lobo
games. Our Philanthropic efforts
this year have done wonders for the
brotherhood of Alpha Nu. Who
knows if we will win an award for
our hard work. It really makes no
difference, as the reward one gets
from helping others is much more
valuable than a trophy.
Greg Hunter
By Denver Miller
Last summer Alpha Nu suffered
a tragic loss. On August 26,1990
brother Greg Hunter was shot and
killed at the sandwich shop he
worked at. Greg was a true Phi
Gam in every respect. He was a
leader by example. He always had
a helping hand to lend. He had a
lust for life which touched everyone
who knew him. At the tender age
of nineteen, Greg left us having no
remorse for past actions or regrets
for lost opportunities. Greg loved
being a Fiji, and we loved him. He
will live forever in our hearts and
minds. A memorial fund has been
established in Greg's name. For
information contact Joel Hausworth
at the chapter house.

Fiji House Gets A Facelift
By

The new word around the Fiji

that that the housing corporation
purchased the house, it has seen
many renovations. Under the

undergraduates, steps are being
taken to give the chapter house a
major facelift. As of March, the roof
has been completely redone, the
heat reinstalled throughout the
house, and numerous electrical
problems have been taken care of.
Future plans include complete
renovation of all bathrooms, and
redoing the front of the house. The
