Norris Pig Dinner 1991
Receives Lemon Award
Thanks to the good work of Bob Morrison and his commit
tees, the 1991 Norris Pig Dinner was acclaimed as one of the
best and certainly the largest in recent history. Graduate and
undergraduate brothers totaled 142 (approximate 50-50 split).
"The OSU Alumni Association is proud to recognize Dr.
Robert D. Cess for the honor he has brought higher education,
his fields of study, and his country."
Such was a portion of the citation that recognized Bob Cess,
'54-481, at the E. B. Lemon Award ceremony in Corvallis on May
10, 1991. The E. B. Lemon Distin
guished Alumni Award was estab
lished by the OSU Alumni Associa
tion in 1981 in acknowledgment of
and in tribute to this remarkable
man's devotion and contributions to
Oregon State University and the
state of Oregon.
The brothers Koch might have had three represented, ex
cept for a serious illness in Ray's family. Norm and Rich were
present. Norm resides in Pilot Rock and Ray lives in The Dalles.
Norm has an EdD, Rich an MD,and Ray a DMD. Now, whatever
happened to the four Retries? (For pictures of alumni in attend
ance, please see the enclosed dues form.)
Thanks much to all the "bros" who contributed above and
beyond the price of the meal. Co-chairmen of the 1992 Norris
Pig Dinner are Jim Collins and Chuck Bassman. Heed the call
when it goes out next spring! — C. H. "Scram" Graham
The Lemon award recognizes
and honors former OSU students
who have significantly contributed to
society and whose accomplishments
and careers have brought credit to
the university.
The Clough brothers from Arlington (Bob, Art, and Bus)
were the largest family contingent. Bob now lives in Albany.
ROBERT CESS
Several things are unique about this award. It is named for
the father of Berlan "Butch" Lemon,'41-265. The 1988 recipient
of this award was Dr. Richard A. Koch,'52-453, of Pilot Rock,
Oregon. He was recognized for his outstanding work as a small
town, country doctor and his good work with Native Americans
of his area.
Bob Cess, the 1991 winner, is a "Leading Professor" (a
prestigious designation awarded to few professors)of atmospheric
sciences at the State University of New York at Stony Brook.
His research includes areas such as the study of clouds, the
greenhouse effect, and global warming.
Bob received his BS in mechanical engineering from OSU
in 1955, an MS from Purdue University in 1956, and a PhD from
the University of Pittsburgh in 1959. — C. H."Scram"Graham
