PIG DINNER INVITATION
Dear Graduate Brother,
With the coming of spring, we are anxiously await
ing our annual Norris Pig Dinner. Our festivities are
scheduled for Saturday, April 14. This year for the
first time we are having a country band and BYOB
starting at 2:00 and dinner beginning at 6:00. This
year we are proud to have Bill Zerman, Executive
Director of the Fraternity, as our speaker. During the
dinner, we will be presenting Gold and Silver Owl
Awards to brothers for 50 and 25 years of brother
hood. Following the dinner, we will have time for
more visitation with cocktails and a casino party in
the living room.

Thanks to an outstanding job by rush chairmen
Bob White ('84), Bucky Henson ('84), and Bob
Wiltshire ('83) Theta's 1983 pledge class was an
impressive group of young men from all over the
southeast.
This year's pledge class again did an outstanding
job on the house, preparing for several rush week
ends such as Homecoming and ail other home
games. They also built a walkway deck as this years
pledge class project.
Pledge training this year consisted of the tradi
tional study of the Purple Pilgrim as well as the
history of the Theta Chapter. In addition, the pledges
had weekly car washes, several closed weekends,
and study hall during the week in order to enhance
their academic performance.
The 1983 pledge class officers were Bob English,

GRADUATE NEWS
This year proved to be very suocessfui as far as
Graduate Relations was concerned. It could not have
president, from Elba; Kavan Powell, vice president,
from Tuscaloosa; Jeff Barnes, treasurer, from
Monroeviile; and Greg Mathews, secretary, from
Jacksonville, Florida. These young men showed fine
leadership that contributed greatly to the success of
this year's class that will hopefully enable them to
continue to add to Theta's 129 years of excellence.

As the spring semester of '84 gets going we are
planning parties in Memphis, Birmingham, Mont
gomery, Mobile, and Huntsville. We are anxiously
anticipating our two biggest rush parties—"Roaring
Twenties" and "Fiji Island" which always prove to be
among the most exciting parties on campus.
As always we are in constant need of your active

As in the past, the House has undergone many
improvements both major and minor. In addition to
the numerous small improvements and repairs made
on the House, the landscape was also upgraded.
Several gardens were redone and the yard received
many improvements. This year the pledge class pro
ject was constructing a sidewalk and retaining wail
in the side yard. This project not only added beauty,
but also created a convenient path to the patio.
The House Corporation has set aside some money
for the purchase of new dining room tables and
chairs. We are also planning on redecorating the
living room and library with new wallpaper, paint,
carpet, and furniture.

RUSH
Theta Chapter maintained its proud tradition in
rush by pledging an outstanding class from all over
the Southeast. This accomplishment can be attrib
uted to the three excellent rush chairmen: Bob White
('84), Bob Wiltshire ('83), and Bucky Henson ('84).
The 1984 rush program got under way in the
middle of October when the chapter welcomed more
than 150 rushees for Homecoming weekend. Christ
mas was another chance for members to meet
SPORTS
Sports have always been a proud tradition of the
Theta Chapter, and this year will be no exception.
With the effort of all members, the All-Sports trophy
should reside here, once again. We have already
finished second in the campus-wide foot-ball and
placed high in soccer. Jimmy Hicks ('85) finished
ifirst in the long distance run earning us valuable
points for the sports trophy.
Spring semester opens with basketball, which we
have dominated for the past three years. Softball is
\r\nanother spring sport which we enjoy playing and
have high hopes in it.
We hope to continue our winning tradition, though
just a symbol, it is one that the men of Theta Chapter
take deep pride in. Roll Tide!

SOCIAL
CAMPUS INVOLVEMENT
This has been a particularly great year for Theta
Chapter in the area of campus involvement. Phi
Gams are increasing their participation in student
government, school organizations, and numerous
professional and civic groups. Gary Toole ('84) has
just completed his term as Interfraternity Council
President. In addition, Gary is also a member of the
Jasons, Order of Omega, and the Anderson Society.
Brett Couch ('85), who has just completed his term
as C&BA Senator, has been named as Executive
Assistant to the SGA President. Doug Martinson ('86)
As always Theta Chapter has had an excellent
social year. The Phi Gams started the fall semester
with a weekend of great bands to celebrate sorority
"Squeal Day." Football weekends have traditionally
been big events at Alabama and this year was no ex
ception, as we had band parties for ttie home games
and took busses to the Birmingham games.
Another highlight of our fall semester was the
pledge swaps with sororities including: KKF, AAA,
XQ.AFA.KA,andOM.
We are also preparing our annual spring events;
"The Black Diamond Formal," "Roaring Twenties,"
"Fiji Island," and an "Old Row Lake Party."
It is evident that the Theta Chapter has continued
