1988 May Newsletter Rho Alpha (Virginia Tech)
TO:
All Rho Alpha BCA Officers and Advisors
FROM:
Jon "Crash" Parker, Rho Alpha BCA President
SUBJECT: BCA News
DATE:
May 9, 1988
This letter is to bring you up to date on what is going on with the BCA
as of NPD 1988. To begin with, Ward Follette was elected BCA
Secretary. He will serve a one year term until an all new BCA is
elected at the next NPD. Secondly, this year was not great for the Rho
Alpha BCA. For whatever the reason, the BCA was not as effective as it
should be.
The main problem still seems to be a lack of communication.
On the whole, BCA advisors hardly ever talk to their undergraduate
committee head.
The BCA officers, the undergraduate officers, and the
House Corp. president held a meeting at NPD to try and decide once and
for all what to do to achieve a good level of communication. We think
we came up with some good ideas.
The chapter is now going to mail the minutes of their chapter meeting
to the BCA officers every week.
The officers will in turn mail out a
copy to each BCA advisor. This way, each advisor will be kept up to
date on what the chapter is doing. In addition, we would like to
implement a contact form. This form will let me know that contact is
,.being made and what was discussed. After each conversation, you are
requested to fill out a contact form and mail it to me, the BCA
President.
This is the what needs to be done.
It is time for all of
us (myself included) to get off of our duffs and starting communicating
with the chapter and each other. I know its not easy. Once you start
to talk to your committee head and become friends, it will be a lot
easier.
I want each advisor to call his advisee and talk to him before the end
of the year (exams end on May 20th). The enclosed set of questions are
a guide to follow when talking to your advisee. They are geared toward
end of the year close down, transition into summer, and looking toward
next year. Many of them will be holding the same positions next fall.
After you talk to your advisee, please fill out the contact form and
return it to me. If I don't hear from you, you'll hear from me. So
let's get this thing rolling. Once we do, I think it will be easier.
The BCA officers and myself want to hold a BCA meeting with just the
BCA officers and advisors within the next month.
We want to decide
upon a definite plan of action for the BCA next year that is agreeable
to all.
We would like to discuss the contact forms, questions to ask
the undergraduates, desired number of contacts, method of contact, etc.
We need your help in making these decisions since you will be the ones
implementing them. So come to the meeting and put in your two cents.
\r\nI have enclosed another form with the choices for meeting dates.
Please indicate a first and second preference and mail the form back to
me along with your contact form after you* talk to your undergraduate
committee head.
The meeting will be held somewhere in northern
'Virginia.
Let's make the BCA an effective body and something that both we and
the chapter can be proud of!!!
Fraternally,
Jorf^han Parker
President, Rho Alpha BCA
