MAY 1986 UPDATE
DINNER ROAST
fhe 128th Norris Pig Dinner
was held February 21st at the
Charlottesville Hilton under the
superb direction of Tim Martorella.
The Omicrons were honored this year
by guest speaker Pat Standing,
former mayor of Virginia Beach and
distinguished Fiji. Some of the
other highlights included the an
nual slide show and presentation
of the Fiji awards as well as some
"unofficial" awards.
Over two hundred guests were
welcomed by the undergraduates in
cluding parents and alumni. After
gathering for cocktails in the
lobby, everyone was treated to a
feast of steamship round and succu
lent shrimp. Immediately following
former Mayor Standing gave the even
ing address discussing the pros and
cons of public service to an apprec
iative audience.
Omicron's new president, Bill
Kenney('87), followed the main
speech with a surprisingly coherent
one of his own. He then presented
this year's Omicron awards to the
following;
Alumni Contribution: Guy Tripp &
Bob Krout
Outstanding Undergraduate: Walter
Preston, III
Intramural Athletes: Greg McFaden &
Walter Preston
Eddie Ebert Pledge Award: Mike Dow
Tank of the Year: Bob Murphy(for
falling out of a skyrack)
Guy Tripp and Bob Krout posing with their
well earned Alximni Conribution Award
The slide show this year was
arranged and performed by Mike
Gillette, Fiji Recording Secretary
and producer of next year's "Girls
of UVa. calendar." Highlights in
cluded intermural action shots,
Fiji Island, and Spring Break pic
tures with special censored shots
of the first annual "Viking Feast."
Bob Krout of the fundraising
committee recognized recent donors
and emphasized the need for both
alumni and undergraduate persis
tence in the fundraising effort.
His enthusiasm and work has spear
headed the campaign that will hope
fully enable the House to repurchase
the property in the coming years.
The Norris Pig Dinner reached
a climax later that night with a
reception back at the House where
the brothers could show off the
Bruno Kenney then recognized
some of the lesser known achievers
in the Fiji domain with the follow
ing awards:
Fiji Escort: John Payne &
Greg Mcfaden
Fiji Wife: Mrs. Janet Kenney
renovation to a surprised and
pleased group of parents and alumni.
The evening was rated a total suc
cess and a special thanks goes out
to all those who took time, expense,
and effort to attend. We hope to see
an even bigger turnout next year.

FUNDRAISER UPDATE
As of April, 1986 contributions to the Campaign for Phi Gamma
Delta have totaled $30,345 and annual pledges for 1986 through 1992
are $10,375. While this is still shy of our initial goals($40,000
by 12-31-85 and $15,000/year pledges), I am encouraged by the show
of interest and support by our Fiji Alumni and parents.
During the balance of 1986 my goals as fundraising chairman
will be to continue soliciting contributions to meet our 1986 ex
penses and secure more annual pledges for the remainder of the
Limited Parnership period. Reminders for those who have already
pledged will be sent in June. In order to make your contribution
tax deductible, make all checks payable to the University of Vir
ginia Alumni Association. In the corner of your check note that the
contribution is designated for the Phi Gamma Delta Building Fund.
Now that the house renovation is 90% complete and the excite
ment has died down, i t will be important for all of us to continue
making some form of contribution(money, furniture, etc.) so we can
cover our debt by 1992 and keep the fraternity financially sound.
This will not only perpetuate a strong physical house but a quality
group of brothers as well. If you have any questions or ideas con
cerning the campaign, please write or call me. My address and phone

BUILDING UPDATE
Major construction on the House is done now with only four or
five perimeter projects still on the books. As funds allow, we plan
on completeing these items over the next few years. Waterproofing
in the basement under the patio is first on the agenda and should be
finished by September. The undergraduate brothers have done a good
job of maintaining the House since the renovation and should be com
mended for t h e i r e f f o r t s .
128TH REUNION DATE SET
November 8th, 1986 will be the date for our 128th Omicron Chapter
of Phi Gamma Delta Reunion. Tim Martorella, House Treasurer, is al
ready organizing this historic tribute and will be mailing out invi
tations in September. Mark your calendar now to attend this festive
occasion.
