Fiji's Take Five Order of Omega Awards
By Paul Mick, and Rudy Olivo
The Iota Sigma chapter capped a success
ful 1994-1995 academic year by winning five of
eight Order of Omega awards. The awards (a
small silver bowl) represent the fraternity's quest
for excellence at ISU. The awards are generally
considered the highest recognition that a frater
nity at ISU can receive. The five awards were
given for outstanding rush, campus involvement,
leadership, finance, and community service.
The chapter took 31 pledges during the
'94-'95 year , which reflects the outstanding rush
program. The chapter rushed these new pledges
through a summer rush program initiated by
graduate brother Tim Harlan '74. The summer
rush program (which was successful again
during the summerof '95) included rush events
at brother's homes.
With increased numbers, the chapter also
increased it's campus involvement. Brothers
have become involved with Union Board, Home
coming, Tandem, and Greek Week steering
committees. The Student Government Associa

FIVE BROTHERS INITIATED AUG. 25
BY Rudy Olivo
The night of initiation is one that a brother never forgets. For one newly initiated brother this
night was especially memorable. Chris McConnell '98 had his grand father there for his initiation
night. Mr. Smith, Gamma Tau '39 was there for his grandson's initiation night, with the gift of his
(Mr. Smith's) badge for McConnell. The night was no less special for any of the other four that were
initiated on the 25th. Greg Graper '98, Terry Morson '98, Jason Jones '98, and Ian Hall '98 are also
now initiated brothers. All brothers seemed to have enjoyed the initiation, and there was two other
honored brother in attendance. Don Mighall Texas '56 was also in attendance for the initiation
ceremony, as was our very own Brent Leffel '91. The Field Secretary was also in attendance.
SIX BROTHERS GO TO ACADEMY
Six delegates from the Iota Sigma chapter went to the 24th academy, beginning on the fourth
of August, continuing through the eighth of August. The six brothers that attended were, Chris
Humphrey '98, Paul Mick '97, Terry Morson '98, Nick Livingston '98, Keith Fowler '98, and
Bo Stout '96. Humphrey stated, "Academy was fun, and exciting. It was a great chance to meet new
people, and bring new ideas back to the chapter. The event was held in Kentucky at Morehead State
University. The Iota Sigma chapter had one of the largest delegations there. Humphrey also added
that he hopes to have the same kind of successful turn out for next years ekklesia.
JAKE VINSON NAMED NEW TREASURER
By Rudy Olivo
Officer elections generally occur during the winter months, and new officers take their
positions for the start of the new semester. Allen Trout '97, decided that life at ISU was not for him,
so he transferred to lU. His leaving left the cabinet position of Treasurer open. The chapter held
elections, and Jake Vinson was named as the new treasurer. Vinson '98 is a nursing major from
Newburgh, In, and is excited to take the new job.

By Paul Mick
On Saturday April 8th, Team FIJI lead by Chris Lasure '95, who has rode for Team FIJI for
the past two years, placed third in ISU's 25th annual Tandem race. The team, which was paired with
Sigma Kappa, and Pi Lambda Phi, placed third in qualifications the weekend before. Lasure placed
second in the "Hot Wheels" competition, which is the time in qualifications.
The team consisted of five Sigma Kappa riders, and five FIJIs: Lasure, Kirby Bilsland '95,
Jeff Mosbaugh '97, Kenneth Harshbarger '97, and Heath Harshbarger '97. The team catcher was

Sycamore Ambassadors, as well as organized on-campus sports such as rugby, and track, and field.
Brothers have not only participated in these roles, but they have taken leadership roles in
many of them. Jason Hanchar '97 was recently named director of Public Relations for Union Board.
Bo Stout '96 was Secretary/Treasurer for Tandem. Eric Louk '96 was chairman of special events for
Tandem. Jake Vinson '98, and Paul Mick '97 were elected to the Student Govemment Senate. Rudy
Olivo '98 was named as a resident assistant over the summer. Olivo, Mick, and Keith Fowler were
named as Sycamore ambassadors in early March.
The chapter proved also to be effective in it's financial matters. There is a current balance
with headquarters, and undergraduate debt is being managed. The chapter has managed to keep
current balances with all vendors.
The Iota Sigma chapter has been serving the Vigo County community through many pro
grams throughout the entire year. Several brothers participate in volunteer programs. Bo Stout '96
has a little brother through the Terre Haute BigBrother/Little Brother program. Jason Jones '98
worked with the New Student Advisement and Registration Program. The chapter has also worked
with the Terre Haute Fire Department.
The chapter has worked hai'd to build and maintain a favorable image. In receiving the five
awards the chapter was recognized for it's dedication and it's quest for excellence. These awards are
just the beginning; the chapter will address scholarship, and graduate relations in the 1995-1996
academic year, while continuing to "Press On" in the areas that it has already had success.
