field the famous publication NORTHERN STAR
be attending the Fiji Academy in Columbus
Ohio August 14 - 18. Mike Jackson and
has been revitalized under the old PHI CHI
label. A newsletter written for the sole
purpose of keeping intelligent and forward
thinking people in the know and on the scene
with the in crowd on campus today, the
NORTHERN STAR hopes to fulfill its mandate
by providing up to date information on the
goings on in the world of PHI GAMMA DELTA
at the U. of A.
Terry Rogers left August 8 to drive the
2000 plus miles to the leadership meet while
Dave Hancock will fly down to meet them and
drive back. We hope all three will come
back with some great ideas and an appreciation
of how the other half lives.
It will be a
new experience for all three.
One longtime member of the
Fraternity was heard to say, upon being
told of the revialization of the rag "You
really should use the old letterhead. It
was quite fine. I bet you could find
some around if you asked the right people.
They probably have it tucked away." Archie
always was a nostalgic fellow. Well Arch not this time, but I promise, next issue
there will be some of that great old
NORTHERN STAR headline, and the FRIGID
FIJI will return. From the rest of you,
contributions are needed - about anything.
Next issue come out in December.
Even for
a slow Fiji that should be lots of time.

RUSH - Rush started early this year at E.A. - or rather it never ended last year at E.A.!!!
Rush Chairman Mike Jackson has been busy this summer making contacts and setting up the fall
rush calendar. Many of the brothers were signed up to do stints on F.O.S.seminars, however
participation has not been high due to an overabundance of volunteers. Besides that we have
been grabbing names and addresses wherever we can. The future is not rosy. We need fifteen
pledges this year. WE NEED PEOPLE. NOT JUST ANYONE. As one of the old reports quotes "we're
basically looking for singing hockey players with good grades." WE NEED PEOPLE WHO WANT TO JOIN
A FRATERNITY BUT DON'T KNOW IT YET. THIS YEAR MORE THAN EVER WE ARE STRESSING QUALITY FRESHMEN INTERESTED IN SCHOLASTICS AND PARTICIPATING IN THEIR COMMUNITY - PEOPLE WHO ARE
INTERESTED IN OTHER PEOPLE.
We can convince them that Fraternity is what they want and
PHI GAMMA DELTA what they need.
YOU CAN HELP!!!!!
We don't need people interested in a social club.
YOU HAVE FRIENDS (all Fijis have friends) ; YOU HAVE NEIGHBOURS ;
YOU HAVE PARENTS :
YOU HAVE RELATIVES : YOU HAD HIGH SCHOOL TEACHERS
WHO MAY STILL BE TEACHING: YOU MAY KNOW OTHER HIGH SCHOOL TEACHERS

IT IS A FACT THAT ALMOST EVERYBODY KNOWS SOMEBODY WHO GOES TO UNIVERSITY. ASK AROUND. LET PEOPLE
K.^iCW THAT YOU ARE A FIJI - AND THAT IT HELPED YOU BECOME WHAT YOU ARE TODAY. LET PEOPLE KNOW
THAT PHI GAiMMA DELTA IS AN EXCLUSIVE GROUP OF OVER ACHIEVERS AND THAT WE WANT NEW MWM8ERS WITH
THOSE EXACT QUALITIES THAT THEIR BROTHER, COUSIN, FRIEND, NEIGHBOUR, SON, HAS.
SEND US NAMES
AND ADDRESSES AND WE WILL TAKE IT FROM THERE
AND WE WILL BE ETERNALLY GRATEFUL. PLEASE
RETURN THIS SHEET WITH YOUR CONTACTS. ONE MEMBER PICKED UP OVER TEN NAMES FROM ONE OFFICE.

Ihave racked my brains and have asked everyone I know and I can honestly say
that I know no one who knows anyone who is going to the U. of A. this year.
THINK POSITIVELY:
IF EVERY E.A. FIJI KNOWS ONE PERSON WE CAN ADD OVER FIFTY NAMES TO OUR RUSH
LIST
PLEASE START NOW.
AND SEND IN NAMES AS YOU THINK OF THEM.
GRADUATE INFORMATION
E.A. hopes to put together and keep up to date a grad file - something that has not been
done in a long time. We would appreciate it if you would complete and return the following
