a large number of

entertainment prevailed, such as a

has it that brother John Schlott

infamous thermodynamic quantity
before the game was over. Despite
the overwhelming support from
the spectators, Rose suffered a
disappointing loss of 8-7.

HOMECOMING'76
As usual, Homecoming turned
out to be one of the major
highlights of fall quarter at Rho
Phi. The , brothers were very
pleased with the graduate return,
as to our best count 35 graduates
(29 %l were able to make it back
this year. Of course Archon Don
Mighell (Texas'56), Bob Harker
(lowa State '43), Dr. Frank
Guthrie (Hanover '50), and other
friends of the chapter were also
present to help make a very
successf ul weekend.
Friday night got off to a flying
start with the Rose-Hulman pep
rally, where bride-to-be of brother
Dave Jones ('771, Miss Tracy
Randall, was recognized as the
Fiji-sponsored homecoming queen
candidate. Also, Rho Phi won a
banner contest entered by the
different fraternities and dormi-
tories on campus. The banner read
"The Phi Gamms Say-Trunk 'em
and Skunk' em !". lmmediately
after the pep rally was the
traditional bonf ire, which clearly
indicated that spirit and pride in
preserving old Rose traditions are
still qualities characteristic of the
f reshman class. (Also that there
were still at least 800 old railroad
ties in the Terre Haute area.) For
the remainder of the evening it
seemed as if there were a contest
to see how many people could be
packed into the Fiii house at once,
for the annual open bar party was
once again a huge success. Undergraduates, graduates, dates, and
numerous friends and guests enioyed a relaxing evening of good
conversation, good friends
sharing memories of old times,
and, of course, good refreshments.
Spirit and enthusiasm showed
themselves Saturday afternoon, os
found its way from the tub into the
hearts of many. The atmosphere
was just right for this climax of the
weekeod, where, os a[ways, "a
good time was had by all".
As a special added feature of
this busy weekeod, the Board of
Chaper Advisors met Sunday
afternoon at the Rho Phi house in
order to discuss the Ghapter's
progress. BCA graduate brothers
present included Mike Hileman
('75), Mike 'lNizz.y" Nisbet ('75),
Dan Jackson ('741, Bill Gibson
('741, Mike Cherbak ('76), Jim
Graham ('72), and Dave " Narc"

Well, sports fans, another illustrious season for those amazin'

comes to a close. This year's
performance is certain to make the
record books.
Among the more notable, albeit
immortal, statistics to reach into
history is the incredible six game
winn ing streak in wh ich the
"Smokin Roar" of Rho
Phi
crushed opponent after opponent.
Not only was the team unbeaten,
but also unscored upon during this
streak as an indomitable defense
held fast through every break and
th reat.
A perfect compliment to the
diehard defenders was the implacable offense of destruction. As the
terror and scourge of the league,
these nine attackers rolled over
opponents with pin-point passihg,
long range bombardment, and
deadly deception. Down-trodden
victims were often seen dragging
themselves off the field while
mumbling the now famous decry,
"Gat, ? Blitzkreig".
The foundation of any winning
team, however, is the men who
play the game. A brief rundown of
this scurrilous squad follows.

BLACK DIAMOND DANCE
Saturday, October 30, Rho Phi
held the first semi-formal event of
the year, Black Diamond. The
brothers and their dates danced to
the melodies of the versatile
"lMindf ield". The group played
songs that ranged from soft-rock
to disco-style.
The festivities were held in the
Gold Room of the lmperial House.
Lights were low and twilighted by
the f licker of candle-lit tables.
Several g rad uate brot hers

Dancing ended at midnight but
more partying continued. Brother

several of his "world" renowned
renditions of popqlar hits, the
