Philanthropy and Community Service
• Last February, the brothers of KP Phi Gamma Delta
continued the FIJI Freeze. Raising money for Cystic
Fibrosis, our undergraduates ran and jumped into the
water at Scarborough Beach in Narragansett. In
junction with our Cystic Fibrosis night hosted at
Friendly’s in Wakefield, we raised approximately
$650.
• Towards the end of the spring semester, the
brothers once again put on an event dedicated to
Cystic Fibrosis. Brother Rich Tetreault’s truck
ceased to function, so instead of just scrapping it,
he donated it for our chapter’s “Beat the Frig Out
of a Rig.” URI students paid to take swings at
Rich’s truck with a sledgehammer. We raised close
to $350 to donate to Cystic Fibrosis, bringing our
single semester total to about $1000!

Philanthropy and Community Service
• Currently, thanks to undergraduate
brother Nick Sullivan, Phi Gamma
Delta is raising money at Burger
Shack in the Emporium at the top of
campus. Restaurant goers who
donate at least 50 cents to Cystic
Fibrosis receive a card that they can
sign and place on the wall of Burger
Shack. We’re anticipating our first
philanthropy of the 2011-2012
academic year to be very successful.
• Last spring,
FIJI also participated
in IFC and Panhel’s Greek wide
cleanup. For this event, our brothers
teamed up with all the fraternities and
sororities on campus to pick up litter.
Our Greeks made a huge difference,
evidence by the appearance of Fraternity
Circle and the accompanying areas.
• On Saturday October 15th, several
brothers and pledges headed down
to the Bonnet Shores Community
Center to participate in a cleanup
of the beaches. FIJI’s worked by
picking up litter and transporting
sand in order to Rhode Island’s
beaches looking beautiful.

The Presidents Address
Greetings brothers! It is with great excitement that we
bring to you our new Kappa Rho Newsletter. Our goal
in the beginning of the semester was to create a
consistent flow of communication between our
undergraduate and graduate brothers. Beginning with
this first installment, we plan on releasing two
newsletters per semester. In this inaugural issue, we
will cover recent chapter accomplishments, along with
some information on brothers and pledges.
Additionally, at the end of the newsletter, you can view
the upcoming events that we encourage all graduate
brothers to attend.
Now is a very thrilling time for our beloved Kappa Rho
chapter. We have just completed our 100th year on the
URI campus, to which our Housing Corporation has
created a book celebrating our history (more on this book
inside the newsletter). We have absolved ourselves of
the preexisting debt we had been in since being
rechartered in the spring of 2008, and are once again
poised to recapture FIJI’s dominance on the URI
campus. I hope that this first issue shows that the
undergraduates have dedicated themselves to
keeping our graduate brothers more involved, and
I am only asking that you jump on board with us.
The next few years will undoubtedly present
many unforeseen challenges to our chapter, but I
am more confident than ever that our
undergraduates will rise to the occasion and will
continue to build upon our chapter’s excellence,
winning for Phi Gamma Delta glory eternal.
