goals for succeeding years. We have
rededicated ourselves to the pursuit
of scholarship.
We expanded our

New Members Introduced
Each year, our chapter begins by
^showing the benefits of the frater
nity to some selected students at
the university. We succeeded in
pledging 12 and initiated 11. We
hope Bob Feuning, one of last year's
pledges will be back with us in the
fall. We'd like to introduce them
to you.

Bob Aloneisi was a delegate to
the Acadeiny held in Ohio in August.
He was joined by Brian Thomas
and Paul Fitzgerald. Brian Thomas
was elected to the Vice-Presidency
of the IFC and Paul is on Student's
Council as an Arts Representative.
Bernie Brinkman is a native of
West Germany and plans to make
Alberta his home. He serves as
our treasurer. Doug Bilinski has
been an active sports chairman
and has an interest in politics.
Dale Elliot is an engineering
student, our outgoing social
chairman and a Southern Alberta
farm boy.
Tim Grahn won an Im
perial Oil scholarship and is
going to be affiliating with our
U.B.C. chapter in Vancouver.
Tim was a great house manager
for us last year. Eugene Falcone
did very well academically and
transferred to the Business
program. He's our Italian connection.
Bob Fuening, a pre-med student from
Calgary, decided to wait until this fall
to decide about initiation.
Ken Sawyer
is another Calgarian in his third year.
He brings a lot of maturity to a young
chapter. Wes Sawatzky is a spring
initiate who studied in Quebec this
summer. We are looking for some real
leadership from him. Dan Suchowersky is
another fine spring initiate. Dan has
been studying in the Ukraine this summer
and has some great experiences to tell
us about.

He sat down with each

Scott Thorkelson is heading up this
committee for '81 - '82 and promises an
active year. It's important because our
members are active in the university
community. Being well rounded - mentally
and physically active, and being sociable
are marks of good education.
Most events are at the house.

Social Roundup
Boy, did we have some good times
last year! And this year should be
great too. Dale Elliot and Kirk
Hancock are two uncivil engineers
who lined up a super social cal
endar. The year started with a
"Western" theme party, several
great exchanges with the woman's
us in better shape though.
Our super jock (Doug Bilinski) plans to
spur us on to newer and greater heights.
Over the summer a few of the brothers
have been getting together for some
football and burgers. We expect to

pledge a few freshmen to make up for
our graduating "athletes." By the way,

a funeral director so on the other hand
he could be scouting for business too.)
Dale and Kirk put on a great
formal with a good band and good
food at the Edmonton Inn during
the spring term. And the year
closed with an "end of exams" blow
out to forget the suffering caused
by too many exams and papers and
lab assignments.
Planning for the fall of '81 is
underway and Kirk Hancock, our
chairman, promises many more
good times.
Almost makes
studying bearable.
Good Sports
Our chapter was a lot more active in
intramural sports last year. We
fi elded teams i n f1ag footbal1,
I.P.O. hockey, university hockey,
soccar, volleyball and co-rec
innertube water polo. At the chapter
retreat we all agreed that we could
have done a little better on the
points side of things.

The House Committee
We have our present house for another
year! The house at 11003 - 90th
Avenue is slated for demolition to
make way for higher density student
housing in 1982.
Chuck Mewhouse (Alberta '75) is working
with Gerry and will be our contractor.
Chuck says that if the financing is
lined up we could be pouring concrete in
the spring and have the house ready for
the fall of 1982.
The present house has been our home
since 1974 and offers comfortable
Randy Atkinson, Dave Hancock, Murray
furnished accomodation for ten
men. It's also the site of our
Dorin and Chris O'Brien and Rollie Cook
fraternity activities.
We should
thank Tim Grahn and Ron Hill who
managed it for us last year. It
was always clean and in good shape.
And the rent is much better than
at "res." When the house is
demolished after this school year
is over, it will take with it
some great memories.
Scott Thorkelson was our summer
house manager this year. He made
a good profit and organized a
work week.

better kitchen facility and a lot

are working to raise the money for the
down payment and line up a reasonable
mortgage. So far the grads have held
three fundraisers and have pledges and
cash for about $30,000. The construction
costs have been estimated to be around
$400,000. and we will need around 10% as
a down payment. It won't take much more
to line up an outstanding home for the
chapter for many years to come. We
appreciate the great work of the grads.
The plans call for the house to have
4,500 square feet of space plus a full
basement.
It would comfortably house
20 - 25 brothers in a gracious building.
Later, the attic could be developed
and accomodate an additional 7-8 men.
Phi Gamma Delta should soon have one of
the largest and most attractive houses
on campus.
New House
Planned
The grads in Edmonton and Calgary are
working to design, finance and build
a new house for the chapter on
university land in North Garneau. It
would see house capacity go from ten
to about twenty brothers in a modern,
attractive and well insulated building.
Gerry Kennedy (UBC) has put together
a couple of stunning proposals for
the house corporation. Gerry is a
well-respected architect in Calgary
and has given the house design a
great deal of thought and time.

Report
The chapter is beginning to run smoothly
and we have a new executive and commit
tee chairmen. One of the results of
fraternity experience is to develop
organizational and leadership skills.
We'd like to thank outgoing president
Mike Hartwig and his cabinet. The
chapter is certainly better for their
efforts.
The new cabinet was elected in the
spring and irranediately organized a
chapter retreat at Mike Hartwig's
cabin.
