Texas Fiji
Not for College Days Alone
pre-Construction Has Begun!
Dollars Still Needed to Ensure Chapter Success
L
ast month, Texas Fiji began pre-construction on the new expansion of Buen Retiro. Thanks to an outpouring of support from our
brothers and friends, the Texas Fiji: Not for College Days Alone campaign has raised $4.48 million from 340 donors.
On April 13, alumni and undergraduates gathered at Buen Retiro for the
2013 Frank Norris Pig Dinner. All in attendance had a great time reconnecting and reminiscing about their personal histories at Texas Fiji and
what is in store for the future of the Chapter. It was agreed that for Texas
Fiji to continue its success, it is imperative that we have the continued
support of our graduates during this significant period of the campaign.
We realize that even though the physical work has started, the fundraising
work is far from over. Only $1.02 million to go!
This historic project will enhance the productivity and viability of Buen
Retiro and Texas Fiji for generations. Projects include:
t Building a 6,049-square-foot additional living space, and a
2,358-square-foot multipurpose room
t Constructing 22 single-occupancy rooms
t Providing areas for individual and group study, with a designated
study hall, leadership conference room, and computer area
t Adding sufficient laundry space
t Installing a structured parking surface to accommodate 45
additional vehicles
t Removing third-floor bedrooms and expanding the Chapter room
t Updating living spaces with new carpet and paint
t Enhancing the TV room
Texas Fiji graduate leadership is proud to show that the construction has commenced.
In addition to these major projects, a 2,896-square-foot outdoor terrace
area connecting the new building to Buen Retiro is planned. This will provide additional social space for members and guests. We are also expanding
the men’s and women’s bathrooms on the main floor and installing a game
room to strengthen the bonds of brotherhood.
The work is to be substantially complete for occupancy by the fall 2014
semester. If you haven’t already made your pledge and become part of
our brotherhood that is helping secure our future, I urge you to make
a pledge to the Texas Fiji campaign today. Please show your support of
this project and help rebuild Buen Retiro.
The campaign committee would like to thank everyone who has supported
Texas Fiji: Not for College Days Alone, and we invite those who have not
committed to step up and help your fraternity. We still need your help to
ensure our $5.5 million campaign goal is met.
Reaching this campaign goal is both our responsibility in ensuring a lasting Texas Fiji legacy and an honor for us to give back and move our Chapter forward to meet the needs of future generations. Please give generously.

the Campaign for

F
or the undergraduate members
of Texas Fiji, the future of
the Chapter is of the utmost
importance. The group of dedicated
young men that make up Texas
Fiji decided among themselves to
make a more-than-generous pledge
of $100,000 to the Not for College
Days Alone campaign. Chapter
President Charles Branch PC ’10
thinks this pledge speaks volumes
about the Chapter’s commitment
to Texas Fiji and its legacy at UT.
“We all recognize the importance of
the campaign, and this contribution
shows how much we care about Texas
Fiji and the house. The campaign for
Texas Fiji is an opportunity to solidify
us as the best fraternity in Texas.
It’s amazing the amount of money
raised so far and is a testament to
our alumni and how much they truly
care about the Chapter.” Once the
campaign has ended and construction
is complete, the finished product will
be an incredible legacy at UT. “It’s
not often that we get a chance to
improve on a Texas landmark. This is
everyone’s chance—your chance—to
join the team effort and be a part of
something historic.”
Below, three leaders of Texas
Fiji share their thoughts on the
Fraternity, brotherhood, and what
their experience has meant to them.

What does Texas
Fiji mean to you?
Texas Fiji has been a great opportunity
for the membership during our
college years and beyond. It’s one of
few campus organizations you can
be part of for the entirety of your
college experience and well after you
graduate. My time as a Fiji has helped
me realize the importance and value
of hard work, respect, excellence,
and friendship. The brotherhood this
Fraternity fosters is unrivaled, and it
has been a pleasure to be part of this
great Chapter.
What sets Texas Fiji apart from
other fraternities on campus?
Our commitment to a pledgeship and
initiation process that fosters strong

friendships, accountability, and dedication within
each pledge class definitely makes being a Texas
Fiji something special and meaningful. Because
of this, Fijis tend to stick together and keep to
themselves more so than most chapters on campus.
What does this campaign mean for the future of
the Chapter?
This campaign is vital for the future of the Chapter.
Not only will it improve our greatest asset, Buen
Retiro, and give us unparalleled facilities that will
improve recruitment and other Chapter functions,
but it’s also a statement for us as a Chapter. This
campaign illustrates that our motto, “Not for
College Days Alone,” is something every Texas
Fiji abides by. I think that is something very
powerful and special.

Incoming Chapter President
What does Texas Fiji mean to you?
Texas Fiji means more than
friendships held throughout our
years around Buen Retiro, but
rather close, lifelong bonds with
the brothers we grow close to during that time.
“Not for College Days Alone” is more than just
the slogan of our Fraternity; it is something that is
lived throughout every member’s life.
What sets Texas Fiji apart from other fraternities
on campus?
Our members are dominant voices in leadership
organizations around campus, particularly those
including other Greek members. One will find
that a Texas Fiji pledge class contains high-quality
members from top to bottom, something that has
come about through our dominance in recruitment.
Members of our Chapter are active from initiation
through graduation day, and the friendships made
are more close-knit than any others around.
What does this campaign mean for the future of
the Chapter?
This campaign means a great deal to our Chapter
as it will enable an entire pledge class to live in the
house again for the first time in years since pledge
class sizes have consistently grown. This will be a
huge improvement, simply in that every member
of the Chapter will have an opportunity to live in
the Fiji house. The addition will also relieve the
stress placed on Buen Retiro.
Anything else you would like to add about your
Texas Fiji experience?
Being a Fiji is a great honor that I have enjoyed
to the maximum in my first two years with the
Fraternity. The companionship and brotherhood
I have received is unique, and something I would
never experience elsewhere. Not only have I
developed great friendships, but with these friends
I have grown in character beyond belief.

What does Texas Fiji mean to
you?
Texas Fiji, as a Chapter, has
had such a profound impact
on my college experience. It
has meant more than I could have ever imagined
and has given me so many great memories and
positive experiences over the past few years. The
great thing about this Chapter is that it keeps
getting better and better each year. We are in
good hands with the leaders of our Fraternity,
and they are actively seeking ways to enhance our
experience as Texas Fijis. Without this Chapter, I
would be lost at a university of 52,000 students.
The friendships will last forever as a direct result
of this great Chapter. No matter how many good
things I say, I will not be doing it justice.
What sets Texas Fiji apart from other
fraternities on campus?
The brothers of Texas Fiji set this Fraternity apart
from any other in the nation. I would personally
vouch for anyone in the Chapter, knowing they
would do the same for me. It seems like each year
the new pledge class meshes perfectly with the
rest of the Chapter, allowing us to befriend each
one of them and accept them as brothers. The
cohesiveness of the Chapter is truly special; seeing
a senior hanging out with other pledge classes is
a normal occurrence. Within each pledge class, a
special bond is forged that will never be broken.
Each member will be forever linked with his
pledge brothers. After graduation, brothers will
be taking all different walks of life but one thing
stays the same: they will always be a Texas Fiji.
What does this campaign mean for the future
of the Chapter?
There is so much history with Buen Retiro and
it can never be replaced, but with the addition
of this new backhouse, it will only enhance the
experience for the members of Texas Fiji. I do not
think anyone will argue that it is our members of
Texas Fiji that make this Fraternity so great, but
adding this backhouse will enhance our living
experience exponentially. I think the greatest
part about this campaign is that we are sticking
to the roots of our Fraternity. We are keeping
Buen Retiro and everything it has to offer while
still being able to upgrade our facilities. I also
think this campaign will have a profound impact
on our future brothers of Texas Fiji. Not only
having the best group of men on campus, but
also having the best house on campus will make
these potential members’ decisions that much
easier.
Anything else you would like to add about your
Texas Fiji experience?
The experience of Texas Fiji is priceless. There
are no words that can describe how much it has
meant to me and every other brother of this
Fraternity. I think we can all agree Texas Fiji has
given so much more to us than we could ever
give to it. It is extremely encouraging that we are
taking this big step to enhance the experience of
Texas Fiji. The future of our Fraternity is bright,
and we (rush captains) look forward to bringing
in the best pledge class yet.
