Lambda Nu Chapter of Phi Gamma Delta
2018 Spring-Summer Overview
The Lambda Nu chapter of Phi Gamma Delta had a very busy spring
semester. This semester, the chapter was busy planning the spring formal, spring
philanthropy, parent’s day, updating Lambda Nu’s archives at Fiji headquarters,
as well as writing an updated history of Lambda Nu. With all of the positive
happenings this spring, the chapter and the Phi Gamma Delta Fraternity as a
whole lost a very valuable brother this year. N.W. Jerry Solomon passed away in
March after a brief illness at the age of 90. Brother Solomon’s contributions to
the chapter and national fraternity will leave a lasting and memorable legacy.
Notable brother, Former Nebraska Governor and US Representative, Charles
Thone, also passed away this spring at the age of 94. With this said, the chapter
powered through the rest of the semester.

With a strong chapter GPA and the pledge class GPA of 3.4 the chapter
stepped up to attain knowledge and academic excellence. Graduating seniors of
the chapter accepted job positions at a variety of employers including Hawkins
Construction, Fast Enterprises, and Sysnet Global Solutions. Connor Christensen,
also a senior, was accepted to Wake Forrest Law College in North Carolina, with
a near full ride scholarship. He was also offered a full ride from Nebraska Law as
well. These Phi Gams have bright futures ahead of them.
Continuing to skirt the university-imposed sanctions and suspension, the
chapter continued our traditions and operations. The only hiccup the chapter
had during the semester was the abusive harassment by the UNL and Lincoln,
Police which attempted numerous times to gain entry to the chapter house as
well as the freshmen’s dorm rooms unwarranted. The matter is being dealt with
by graduate brothers, and the house board. Besides this, the chapter is proud to
announce that we initiated 26 new brothers from the fall semester. The rush
chairs also worked hard over the fall semester and winter break to rush a spring
class with five pledges making grades, to be activated in the fall of 2018. With
strong interest in the house from rushees and momentum in the chapter
continuing from last year, the rush chairs expect to have a pledge class of at least
30 by the start of the fall semester. They have signed many pledges this summer
already. Also, this summer, a delegation of grads and chapter officers made the
trip to Texas for the Ekklesia. This Ekklesia was extra special as Nebraska
graduate Clark Robertson (1982) was elected Archon President. With a
productive semester the chapter continues to be strong and dedicated to
upholding Phi Gam values.

Spring Philanthropy
Chapter raises $1,600 for I’ve Got a Name
This Spring our very own undergrad brother, Harrison Smith (2021, below in blue), promoted,
performed, and brought in Spirix, an electronic dance music artist, for our spring philanthropy event.
Many brothers, as well as other UNL students attended. The concert was held at The Royal Grove and
raised a grand total of $1,600, to benefit I’ve Got a Name.
I’ve Got a Name, is a Lincoln based organization that is dedicated to ending sex trafficking and related
crimes. The organization does this by raising awareness and by supporting the victims of sex
trafficking. Throughout the semester we worked closely with them during their the annual “No Girl for
Sale: Walk for Freedom”, and represented the Lambda Nu chapter with our donation, volunteers and
participants.
Updating Archives and
Lambda Nu History
This spring brother Zach Penrice (2019) headed to
Lexington, Kentucky for Phi Gam Archives Week to
help update and maintain the extensive Lambda Nu
collection. Even with one of the largest collections at
headquarters, the chapter’s formal chapter history
book has not been updated since at least the 1990’s.
Zach, a Journalism and Broadcasting major, is in
charge of updating and writing the history for future,
current, and graduate brothers to learn from and
enjoy.

Kansas City Spring Formal
This spring, the brothers of Lambda Nu
headed down to Kansas City for our annual
2018 spring formal. For the formal night of
the weekend, the chapter reserved the
Embassy Suite’s ballroom near the Plaza
and had a good time with our dates. The
next night the underclassmen took party
buses to Lawrence, to explore the nightlife
at KU, while the upperclassmen enjoyed
KC’s Power and Light District. Spring
formal was a nice break for the chapter
before finals.
