"Terror on 25th Street" Raises $2,700
for Jackson Street Youth Services
During fall term of 2019, the brothers of Kappa Omicron were once again able to
host their annual Haunted House philanthropy event benefiting Jackson Street Youth
Services. On Halloween night, from 6 to 8 p.m., the children of Jackson Street were In
vited to experience the event for free, while from 8;30 p.m. to midnight, college students
were charged $5 for a good scare (and a good cause). The chosen theme for this year
was "Terror on 25th Street" and the entire chapter house was converted into an insane
asylum. Brothers and pledges dressed up as mentally deranged medical patients, and
insane "doctors" that acted as tour guides for any guests going through the house Par
ticipants were taken through ail three floors as well as the basement, being given a truly
haunting experience. Including an ultra-realistic electric chair.
All proceeds from the event, which Included nearly $2700 raised In a single night,
were donated to Jackson Street Youth Services. This amount surpassed the $2100

Oregon adolescents and young adults to develop a positive attitude toward themselves
and others, and to achieve an appropriate degree of Independence. They provide shel
ter services and address the Issues of health, education, juvenile justice, life skills, and
job-readiness, helping to reduce homelessness, runaway behavior, substance abuse,
child abuse, and unemployment.
The main organizers behind this event were Ashwin Devarajan and Alden Sos-
novske. They were responsible for designing the theme, reaching out to the community,
tabling at the MU, buying supplies, and organizing the setup of the event.
They thank the brothers of Kappa Omicron, the participating sororities, the QSU
community, and the staff of Jackson Street for their support and generosity. Terror on
25th Street was a massive success, and the brothers of Kappa Omicron look forward to
continuing this proud Phi Gamma Delta tradition for years to come.

enter this challenging new chapter of their life.
In the 2019 fall term we started a team-based scholarship game, creating an additional platform
for the brothers and pledge brothers to encourage and support each other as we work toward aca
demic excellence. I created teams with an even balance of brothers and pledge brothers to bring the
chapter closer together. The best team will get a nice reward at the end of the term.
My uncle, Jason Van Horn '93, served in a similar role during his time at the KG Chapter, and
it's great to continue the family legacy and to have an impact on my brothers.

Oregon roots, settling in the Portland area with Judy and two
daughters. His greatest joy was spending time with a golf club in
his hands or with friends and family. Survivors include his wife,
