FULL HOUSE - 16 LANGDON NEEDS YOUR HELP
Dear Graduate Brothers,
Our largest pledge class since
re-chartering will be moving
into 16 Langdon this fall. For
the first time in over 20
years, the house will be at
capacity, with 44 brothers
living in. We would like to
thank all of you for the
graduate support that we
have received thus far. Without your help none of this
would be possible. 16 Langdon has once again become
the crown jewel of the Mu
Chapter.

However, with the house at
capacity, there are still improvements that need to be
made. In order to house 44
brothers, we have targeted
two specific areas that need
improvement. Specifically,
we are looking to renovate
the kitchen in order to bring
in a cook and furnish the
Great Hall to properly showcase its beauty.
The Great Hall then, in its prime and fully furnished.
Here is where we need your
help. As new Greek houses
are starting on campus and
existing chapters continue to
grow, it is imperative to make
these improvements NOW to
remain on top and keep up
with our competition.
Langdon, please see the form on the back of this newsletter.
Your donation will help make a “Great” difference! Will you
consider a donation of $50, $100, $200, or even more? Your
generosity is greatly appreciated.

A MESSAGE FROM THE OUT-GOING PRESIDENT
By: Martin Uraga (2012) - Out-going Chapter President
On Monday, December 10, 2012, with
tears clouding my eyes and nothing I
could do to stop them, I addressed my
brothers, our Chapter, for the last time
as president and as an undergraduate
brother, during what would be my most
memorable night of R&C as a Fiji. Three
and a half years after having my first
contact with the most important thing
in my college life, the daunting moment
of graduation came upon me.
As I look back at the quality of friends I
have made over my time at 16 Langdon,
there is no doubt in my mind that becoming a part of this Fraternity has
been one of the best decisions in my life.
I clearly remember the first time I
stepped into the house, a time when one
of the living floors was closed, the floors
on the Snark deck and Great Hall were
being completely replaced, and the dining hall did not have tables. It took me a
long time to understand it, but very often the Chapter gets extremely caught
up with the day-to-day/event-to-event
specific details. This has led to very diligent work, but tends to make us forget
the truly sustainable progress we make semester to semester.
Friendship is the most cherished and refined value we have developed, exemplified
by the 75+ minute-long R&C round at the
last Chapter meeting that we held just to say
goodbye. Through friendship we have realized that anything is possible as long as
brothers are there to support each other.
Knowledge and Service were the focus of the
past year as we strived to rise in the ranks
academically, as well as become the most
philanthropic chapter on campus. Excellence has become the norm for everything
we set ourselves up for; and while time consuming and tedious, it is the reason why we
either do things right, or we don’t do them
at all. Lastly, and most importantly, the morality aspect of the 80+ brothers in the
Chapter is the backbone of our success. To
maintain such a large group of college students who are focused, concentrated, and
willing to live up to highest standards of
morality, has been the greatest challenge,
and the greatest success in the four years
since re-chartering.
As I join your side, the graduate brother
side, I remind myself that the Chapter is
healthy and moving forward at an increasingly faster pace every semester. It
is now my turn to fulfill the promise I
made to my Chapter: that it will not be
for college days alone. It may not be easy
at first but I will find ways to continue to
support our Chapter, and recommend
that any graduate brother who has the
desire to become involved, do so. The
Chapter needs it, and you will be welcomed with an open heart.

RIVALRY RUN 2012 - $7,000 DONATED!
By: Joe Snodgrass (2015) - Chapter Historian
Camp Randall in Madison on the fourth
annual Rivalry Run benefiting the Red
Cross.
At 2 A.M. on Friday, October 19, a day
before the home football game against
the University of Minnesota Golden Gophers, a group of 12 brothers and pledges
set out from 16 Langdon for Winona,
MN, to meet the brothers of the Mu
Sigma Chapter to complete a run from
TCF Bank Stadium in Minneapolis to
Over 40 brothers participated in our leg of
170 miles from Winona back to Madison.
The run as a whole went very smoothly;
due to high participation and brothers
being in prime physical shape, we finished
in less than 24 hours. With the help of our
sponsors Wando’s, EMDAT, Wings Over
Madison, and Dressander and Associates,
we were able to raise over $7,000 for the
American Red Cross. Most of these pro-
ceeds went to the efforts in helping those
affected by Hurricane Sandy, which occurred less than a week later. Wisconsin
head football coach Bret Bielema was so
kind as to donate an autographed game
ball to our efforts, which will be auctioned off at Pig Dinner on April 27.
We would like to extend our deepest
thanks to all those who donated to the
effort. We appreciate your gifts as do
the members of the American Red Cross
and those affected by Hurricane Sandy.

FALL 2012 SOCIAL UPDATE
By: Ryan Burke (2014)
The Mu Chapter has had a long history
of grooming fine gentlemen, promoting
high academics, and knowing how to
have a great time—especially in the presence of UW’s fine sorority women. This
past semester, we had social events with
the lovely ladies of Alpha Phi, Kappa
Kappa Gamma, Delta Delta Delta, Pi
Beta Phi, and Alpha Chi Omega.
There is nothing like the sight of the
brothers dressed up as different animals
or their childhood dream jobs bursting
through the doors of a sorority house, all
while belting out our wonderful (and
colorful) social songs. We’ve also had
many events at 16 Langdon. Around
Halloween time, we had our second annual Fiji/Pi Phi Pumpkin Patch trip to
Schuster’s Farm. There we enjoyed
pumpkin picking, hayrides, and a giant
corn maze. In December, we had our
Winter Formal and the annual Fiji
Christmas Caroling. This year for Winter
Formal, brothers and their dates took a
Christmas Caroling
bus to the Three Bears Lodge in Warren,
Wisconsin, for two days and two nights.
Six snaps to the social committee for putting in the time and effort to make sure all
of this happened. Thanks to them, we
have stories that will stick around for
years to come. Here’s to good old Delta!
GETTING READY FOR HUMOROLOGY
By: Rolf Ieuter (2014) - Newly elected Chapter President
Humorology is well underway as the
gentlemen of Phi Gamma Delta pair up
with the lovely ladies of Alpha Phi. Our
hope for redemption from last year
drives our desire to once again uphold
the tradition of FIJI’s success in the
final show.
As we gear up for our show’s debut in
April, practices at 16 Langdon have
been taking place three days per week,
totaling 6 hours. The male directors,
Matt Ashton, Rolf Ieuter, Tommy
Slattery, Joe Snodgrass and Scott
Siegel work with three female directors
from Alpha Phi and lead a cast of al-
most 90 students, 35 of whom are Phi
Gams.
With outstanding choreography, excellent
talent, great cast chemistry and dashingly
good looks, this cast hopes to win over the
hearts of judges and take home the gold in
the final show on April 4-6. The two main
characters, Tommy Slattery and Joe
Snodgrass, demonstrate true FIJI talent
and redefine the voices of angels through
their musical solos. Our continued efforts
to not only add another trophy to the
Great Hall, but also raise money for Camp
One Heartland, truly demonstrate persistence.
We invite all of our graduate brothers to
see Phi Gamma Delta and Alpha Phi put
on an incredible performance! For ticket
sales and more information on the show,

A CAPELLA SHOW RAISES $1,200
By: Cedric Kovacs-Johnson (2014)
Earlier this semester, the Mu Chapter hosted a philanthropy
concert to benefit the student organization, Engineers Without
Borders. The performers were the UW Madhatters – a wellknown student a capella group who performed for the President last year.
The evening was significant from a fundraising standpoint and
more importantly, it brought together three very different student organizations for one purpose on a single night.
If you walked through the dining hall on this Saturday night,
you would have found over 215 people (mostly sorority girls)
surrounding the stage. The chapter, the Greek Community,
and the student body came together for one night to raise
over $1,200 in one hour.
