Fall rush is over and the
halfway point of the semester
is creeping up fast. Despite
the chapter’s busy schedule,
our brothers have managed
to continue to excel both
inside and outside the
classroom. With the largest
roster numbers Kappa Rho
has ever achieved, our
chapter has become one of
the most influential Greek
organizations on campus. In
this issue of the KP Owl, take

graduates and
undergraduates have done!
This past semester, our

Recruitment Update
Replacing ourselves, one of Phi Gamma Delta’s most vital
responsibilities. Junior Recruitment Chair Tom Peters (top) certainly
prefilled this responsibility, after implementing his second great rush
campaign this fall. Brother Peters and the rest of Phi Gamma Delta
didn’t just put together an outstanding series of rush events, but found a
phenomenal group of pledges that represent the core values of being a
Phi Gam. This fall we had one of our most selective processes, as we
had upwards of seventy interviews, with twenty pledges accepting bids,
eager to be members of the Kappa Rho chapter.
The Omega pledge class shows the continuation of developing
FIJI gentlemen, based off their omnipresent successful mentality.
Pertaining to academics, campus involvement, community service,
personal achievement, as well as many other endeavors. For starters,
each one of our pledges has accomplished an exceptional GPA average.
We have pledges also already getting involved in campus activities like;
tour guiding, SAA, SEC, and Freshmen Orientation. In addition, this
Omega Class personally has a little bit of everything to offer to the
Kappa Rho chapter based off their backgrounds. We have a National
Gatorade Player of the Year for football, whose uncle and father
were Kappa Rho Phi Gams. Another one of our pledges, who is an
aspiring musician opened up for numerous big names in the music
industry, including The Chainsmokers.
In conclusion, it’s definitely safe to say that the brothers of Phi
Gamma Delta did a marvellous job recruiting this semester. Continuing
to build off the success of our alumni!

Onward Towards Excellence
Written by: Matt Anania
Here at the Kappa Rho Chapter of
Phi Gamma Delta, excellence is our
driving influence as we prepare for the
future of this Fraternity. The past few
years have been a period of exponential
growth, as the chapter has nearly doubled
size. With 86 active members, the
fraternity is the largest it has been in years.
Increasing recruitment efforts along with
enhancing the pledge education process
have made a valuable impact on instilling
the values on incoming brothers. Perhaps
Our brothers representing us at the annual Nearly Naked
one of the most profound effects of our
Mile
Chapter’s expansion is our increased
involvement on campus. We have brothers serving as campus tour guides, orientation leaders, members of
the Student Alumni Association, and the American Marketing Association. Phi Gams also continue to excel
in the classroom as well. As our chapter grows, it is important to keep our focus on achieving academic
excellence. Over the course of the past year our average chapter GPA has increased from a 2.6 to a 2.92, with
the goal of surpassing the 3.0 mark by the end of this semester. We are also taking an innovative approach to
philanthropy. This year we are partnering with Sigma Phi Epsilon in our “Date a Bro” event. Girls from
sororities on campus will place bids for a romantic date with a brother of their choice. All proceeds will
benefit our chapter charity the Cystic Fibrosis
Foundation, and Sarah McGrath, a Hodgkin’s
Lymphoma patient. The brothers of Phi Gamma
Delta are fully invested in the growth and
success of our chapter, as we move onward to
excellence!

President’s MessageMake A Donation
To CFF
Brothers,
I write to you all with immense pride.
Pride in both you, our Alumni, and
our Chapter, and its threshold where
it currently stands. Our chapter has
continued its pattern of great growth
and exploration on its path of
excellence and glory and have
achieved milestones along the way.
The Undergraduate Chapter currently
sits at 100 men, both brothers and
pledges who have truly taken our
values to heart. Our GPA has jumped
upwardly and consistently over the
last 4 semesters and have broken past
the All-Fraternity Average, and
aligned most recently with the AllMen's average of URI.
The continuous efforts from our
fraternity as well as all those who are
active in fundraising for this cause are
making it possible for awareness to
spread and one day a cure for this
horrible disease. All proceeds from
charity events are donated to, CFF, the
Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. If you would
like to donate online please visit
www.cff.org, or If you prefer to write a
check, make it payable to the "Cystic
Fibrosis Foundation" and mail it to:

We are happy but not satisfied as we
push for even greater goals. We look
forward to our upcoming elections,
where promising young leaders
appear ready to take the ship's wheel
with no wind lost in its sails. We are
striving to keep our expansive alumni
base informed of our chapters
progress throughout the year so do
look forward to our many newsletters
and graduate events such as the Pig
Dinner in April, and this weekend’s
Homecoming.
Brotherly and Fraternally,

Undergraduate Spotlight: James Hesemeyer
As a result of our chapter’s outstanding performance as of
late, this year’s undergraduate spotlight was especially hard
to decide. In the end, it was hard to ignore such an excellent
young talent as James Hesemeyer. With 3.8 GPA and a
double major in Secondary Education and English, James
Hesemeyer doesn’t stop once he leaves the classroom. He
recently accepted a position on the Student Alumni
Association’s leadership team. When Hesemeyer isn’t doing
schoolwork, helping out at SAA or at the house, he’s writing
rhymes for Slam Poetry Club. As one of the clubs most
involved and well-written poet’s, Hesemeyer has proven
without a doubt that he has a way with words. As a result of
James’s exceptional academic standing, he was accepted
into the Phi Eta Sigma Honor’s Society. The promising
young leader that James Hesemeyer has shown himself to
be has naturally carried over into the house. He plans on
running for Historian this fall election for the 2016/2107 term.
We wish him well in the school year and we know he will
continue to provide for the chapter!
