GAMMA TAU
President's Message
by Robert Douglas Ihytor
Finally, after long delay and inueh inaction, the brotliers of Gamma
Tau are attempting to reestiiblish closer tics with our graduates. The
abysmal state of graduate affairs is not a source of pride for our
chapter, and wliile I hesitate to make any bold predictions concerning
its future, I do feel that there is a newfound realization of its
importance. Fortunately for us undergraduate brothers,a number of
graduate brothers including Brian Wright, House Corporation
President; Jimmy Jarrard, Purple Legionn;ure: Tsali Bentley, former
Purple Legionnaire,J. Paul Ihiines: Jon Strombom;Jeff Keesee; Alex
T>'mchuk; Jimmy Rowe; John Warehol; and Glenn Glover gave
considerable amounts of their time to us for rush. Additionally,

Phi Gam had amassed three fraternity championships in softball,
volleyball, and track; moreover, we won a school championship in
track:md finished second in the school in both softball and voUeybaU.
Lestit be said, however, that we are merely a"jock"chapter.Phi Gam
surged to a 2.92 overall CPA for Spring Quarter. This lofty
achievement was good for a second place finish among all fraternities
on campus, and it exceeded the all-men's average by .23. Despite the
incredible amount of time it took to achieve the aforememtioned
accomplishments.Phi Gams stillfo^d occasion to donate over 550
man-hours to community servicfe; thereby continuing the rich

the "time is now"for our chapter to assert itself as the best fraternity
on campus and as the best chapter in our Fraternity. With much
popular support and the hard work of many. Phi Gam bolted out of

Fall RushbyA
Smashing Success!
Jeffrey Lee Crumley '89
The brothers of Gamma Tau began the '87-'88 school year with
one of our most successful rushes in years. This can be attributed to
several factors, but undoubtably one of the largest was a rash
workshop conducted by Dave Slater(Ohio University '67). Dave's
enthusiasm about rush seemed to rub off on the whole chapter and
eventually led to a set of guidelines by which tojudge rushees. This
set eventually came to include (1)Academics.(2)Extracurricular
activities,(3)Athletics,(4)Personality, and (5)Overall Character.
These guidelines, along with the chapter's enthusiasm, and an
excellent calendar of rush events combined to bring in an outstanding

pledge class of 29 fine young men.
This figure looks even better when it is taken into account that rush
at Georgia Tech is completely dry. and that freshmen are no longer
allowed to visit the house during orientation. And while these two
facts might cause problems for others, the brothers of Gamma Tau

used an e.xcellent rush calender which boasted of events such as
"David Letterman night!' a hypnotist and numerous band parties to
help entertain rushees.
However, much of this could not have been possible without the
help ofour Graduate Brothers. A special thanks to all who sent rush
recommendations; without them we would never have metsome of
our new pledges. And to those who know ofa young man who would
make a strong addition to our chapter we urge you to write and let
us know.
Once again.thanks to all who participated in rush and
