NOVEMBER 30.1987
PHI GAMS HELP LEUKEMIA SOCIETY
This
is the
time of the
year for giving thanks for the
benefits and privileges we
have
received.
The undergraduates
have taken
this a step further and have devoted a great deal of
time an(^ energy to helping those individuals less fortunate.
For
several^ears, Phi Gamma Delta has assisted the Leukemia Society
of America, a foundation for the benefit of leukemia victims and
dedicate to research of this deadly form of cancer. This year,
however? the chapter has offered unparalleled support.

A VISIT»rO RILEY CHILDRENS' HOSPITAL
Three weeks ago the undergrads visited the leukemia patients
at Riley Childrens' Hospital in Indianapolis. The Glovers' Ice
Cream Company of Frankfort, Indiana donated ice cream for the
event.
It was a touching scene to see these courageous children
struggling against this deadly disease.
The hopes were that
these childrens' lives may have been a little brighter that
afternoon. Despite the mis-spelling of FIJI (figi), a seven foot
banner thanking the men of Lambda Iota for spending an afternoon
at Riely was proudly displayed in the entry hall of the chapter
house.
BETA GRADUATE CHAPTER HOSTS BENEFIT LUNCHEON
The Beta
Graduate Chapter
of Phi Gamma Delta (Indianapolis
area) hosted the first annual benefit
luncheon for
the Leukemia
Society of
America.
The
luncheon, held
on
the
Indiana
University-Purdue University Indianapolis campus took place two
days before the old-oaken bucket game in Bloomington. Lambda
Iota Phi Gam Henry Ryder'48 was the master of ceremonies.
SWEATER SALES RAISE MONEY FOR LEUKEMIA
The Phi Gams acted as the sales agents on campus two weeks
ago in a sweater sales promotion. A sales stand was set up under
the the Brown Chemistry Hall breezway.
Brothers took turns
"minding the shop" for several days.
The profits of the sale,
nearly $1,000 were presented to the Leukemia Society of America.
FIJI RUN FOR LEUKEMIA
The Purdue band played, the Golden Girl entertained the
crowds. President Steven Beering spoke, and Head Footbal1•Coach,
Fred Akers presented the Indiana-Purdue game ball on the steps of
Hovde Hall last Friday. Dr. Richard Grace'51, Vice President for
Student Services, ran the first two
mile leg of the annual Run
For Leukemia. Traditionally, Lambda Iota runs the game ball down
to the Zeta chapter in Bloomington for the old-oaken bucket game.
This year, however, the brothers at Lamda Iota raised an
unprecedented $3,000 for the
Leukemia
Society
of
America, the
beneficiary of the event.
Brother Ed Kennelly'89, Chairman of
the Committee, was quoted in many Indiana newspapers and on the
radio thanks
to a
press release issued by the Purdue University
News Service.
