THANK YOU BROTHERS
By Cale Conley ('91)
I doubt that I will ever see greater testimony to the power of the
brotherhood of Kappa Deuteron as was evidenced at the 26th annual Norris Pig
Dinner. In one night we raised over $25,000 in "new" contributions and saw the
fulfillment of over $12,000 in pledges. In all, we raised over $38,200 in a period
of three days!
That money was absolutely critical to our construction efforts, but I must
admit that the dollar amounts paie in comparison to what they signify. What those
dollars stand for is brotherhood, goodwill, and the strong sense of belonging to a
truly extraordinary organization that was tangible in the air on the evening of Pig
Dinner. What we, and I emphasize WE, have accomplished in the last three years
is something that cements our place among the nation's great fraternal chapters.
The highlights include....
Over $300,000 in cash raised among barely over 450 graduates.
The completion of a $228,000 renovation to the apartments.
The finalization of a $425,000 chapter house that stands alone
among those on the University of Georgia Campus.
And, perhaps most significantly, proof that the ideal of
persistence is not a trite saying ~ it is a characteristic of our
chapter that will enable us to succeed ad infinitum.
There are so many people to thank, I don't know where to begin. Of course,
the steering committee was instrumental, and their recognition via Phi Gamma
Delta's Distinguished Service Award was deserving. Of course, there are many
others. "Class leaders" like Ira Bershad, Tom Blando and John Crowers.
"Construction advisors" like Stan Lankford, Robert Henson,

The 1994 Norris Pig Dinner
By Alex Hill ('95)
The 26th Anniversary Norris Pig Dinner was a huge success thanks to
tremendous support from all of our graduate brothers. With over 145
graduates in attendance, we successfully raised nearly $40,000 to complete
the house campaign. This was a huge accomplishment, and all the brothers
were able to see the fhiits of their labors in the recently finished chapter
house. We now have a facility that is worthy of the finest fraternity at UGA.
This year's Pig Dimier was certainly one of the best in the history of
our chapter. Former Executive Director Bill Zerman was our keynote speaker
for the evening. Everyone truly enjoyed the opportunity to renew old
fraternity bonds and reminisce about their days as an undergraduate at Kappa
Deuteron. The evening was highlighted with a band party by Fijis own
"Evergreen." It was a great event with which to open the new house.
If you were not able to make this year's Pig Dinner, we sincerely hope
that you will make every effort possible to be here next year. This is a ^eat
weekend to get back to Athens and see brothers who you might not hav^ ept
in contact with. Please drop by to see the new house whenever you are in
town. It is a magnificent structure which will be treasured for years to come.

PURPLE LEGIONNAIRE'S REPORT
by Jere W. Morehead (Ga. Faculty)
Because ofthe completion ofthe new house, this spring has been a rewarding time
for me as the Purple Legionnaire at Kappa Deuteron. Due to the extraordinary leadership
of many graduate brothers, the dream of a new house now is a reality. I know the
undergraduate brothers are committed to building upon your record of excellence and
striving for new achievements this next year.
The undergraduate brothers have enjoyed the new house with a veiy active social
calendar this spring (including a band party after Pig Dinner). Due to the capable
leadership of House Manager Russ Blankenship ('96), the house has endured this busy
time without any abuse. The unique structure of the house and the cooperation of the
undergraduate brothers has contributed to his ability to prevent any harm during periods
of high traffic flow. Russ deserves our gratitude for doing a superb job in this new
position.
The chapter also has been concerned with many other subjects since my last report
to you. During the winter quarter, the brothers broke the Kappa Deuteron record for
academic performance (dating back to 1981 when UGA began compiling such records)
and posted a 3.12 overall GPA. Their closest challenger was far back with a 2.98 GPA
and the closest fraternity of comparable size (SAE) was at a 2.87. Twenty-seven percent
of our members also were recognized as campus leaders and we continued to dominate
intramural athletic events. The chapter will end this spring by working on a new
community service project with Habitat for Humanity and plans to "adopt" a local
elementary school and provide a variety of support activities for the children next fall.
While the conclusion of the house project naturally could lead to a time for
complacency by the undergraduate brothers, I am pleased to note that has not happened.
Under the able leadership of Drew Wade ('97), the chapter just completed the most
comprehensive and sophisticated awards report that I have ever seen. I honestly believe
that we will be a strong contender for several major awards, including the Cheney Cup,
this coming August at the Ekklesia. You may recall that we placed second in last years
competition for the Cheney Cup.
Finally, I encourage you to contact the chapter and provide any rush
recommendations you might have on exceptional high school graduates in your area that
are planning to attend the University of Georgia. We are graduating this spring a number
of outstanding brothers, including two Foundation Fellows and 4.0 First Honor
Graduates, Paul Jones and Eric Overby. We really need your help in identifying, as
early as possible, the best and the brightest young men to replace our departing seniors.
Please contact our Rush Co-Chairmen, Nathan Ballard ('96) or Carlton Guthrie ('97), with
aiiy recommendations and supporting information you may have on new UGA students.
Have a great summer!
