Brothers,
In this edition of the Chi Iota Quarterly, we are excited to introduce our Theta Pledge Class! The
Theta Class is comprised of 19 outstanding young men who already exhibit the Phi Gam spirit that we
all share. Many graduate brothers have visited the Chapter House this semester and the undergraduates cherish these opportunities to connect with other Chi Iota Fijis. Your dedication to the Chi Iota
Chapter has truly inspired us and we are eager to continue strengthening our presence at the University
of Illinois. I hope you enjoy this edition of the Chi Iota Quarterly.

a close working and fraternal
relationship with the Chapter
through attendance at house and
chapter meetings, social events,
and attendance at Fraternitywide
leadership/educational
events.
Finally, and certainly of utmost importance, the PL is to
see that the Chapter adheres to
all applicable laws, regulations,
and policies, including risk
management and the prohibition
against hazing.
Wow. Sounds like a lot,
doesn’t it? Actually, the PL position is probably the most important grad volunteer position
in our Fraternity, according to
IHQ, so I’m glad I was able to
retire from my full-time career
recently in order to have more
time to devote to Chi Iota of Phi
Gamma Delta.
In keeping with my personal
philosophy of “making haste
slowly,” I intend to transition
into this position as best I can
during the next few weeks while
also winding down my remaining Section Chief responsibilities.
My intent is to keep you informed through this column in
future editions of the Chi Iota
Quarterly.
I welcome your comments,
criticisms, and suggestions.

·Career Now: Consultant, Navigant Consulting,
Disputes & Investigations practice, Chicago
·Positions at Fiji: Finance/Fundraising Chairman, Pledge Educator, Board of Chapter Advisors
(Graduate Relations Advisor)
·Most Memorable College Moment: The Chartering Ceremony. The fraternity had a whole
weekend of events and they were all great. It was
the culmination of two years of hard work. The
events included a pledging ceremony, the White
Star reception, and Pig Dinner. The weekend was
very satisfying and full of great brotherhood. The
after-party at Joe’s was a blast.
·If you could choose one other FIJI to be stuck
on an abandoned island with, who would you
choose? Michael Gustavson, aka ‘Mike Jones.’
Mike has been known to
dress as a pirate. He listens
to so much Jack Johnson,
he must know something
about being stranded on a
island. After spending a
week with him at spring b
reak, I know he can build
a mean sand castle. Mr. Gustavson has a Master’s
degree in Civil Engineering, so he could skip the
sand castle and build us a beach palace. This man
always knows where to find the rum. And finally,
anyone nicknamed the ‘Shark’ must be able to
catch some fish.
